Who else is having success with this unit?

I am loving it thus far...my opponents never focus on it and it goes around wreaking havoc almost uncontested...I always leave mine in reserve...thinking about even taking the holofields off it and running it bare.

Tagging the occasional broadside with a monofilament s8 barrage has a way of making me a little happy.

I haven't been able to use the torrent yet...anyone else finding it not worth it? I suppose if I had to take the final HP off a vehicle the auto-hit would be worth it..

S7/8 rending simply dosent do anything. Vs vehicles its very meh, vs meq it gets 2-3 kills a round, and vs MCs or TEQ it gets maybe 1 wound. Not an effective source of damage from the HS slot. I would rather just about anything from the HS slot. Not to mention the Warp Hunter is simply better in every way.

^ Wow... way to piss on someone's parade....

I haven't used them yet, but plan on trying out 2 with the Crystal Matrix and holo-fields for turn 1 flatout torrents.

He asked for an opinion. Having played 3-4 games with it, that is my assessment. If it still had its dangerous terrain rule, maybe, but the new iteration is very meh. Its tries to be too much and gets stuck inbetween not doing anything well. Its also in an in-demand slot. Kina like zoans in 5th but at least they had something strong, even if unreliable.

For general purpose, vaul's support battery performs better for just about everything. Sure, no ID on T4, but it can load up wounds much better, is cheaper, and is much tougher.

I actually did not ask for an opinion on the unit.

From the standpoint of an IG player that uses griffons and saber defense platforms my opnion is night spinners with or without holo fields blow, but Vaul's support batteries rock.

The cost of a single spinner is 5 points under the cost of 4 shadow weavers. 4 small pies>1 large pie even if the large pie is 1 point higher in str. 16 wounds at t7> one av12 tank.

The firepower of 2 or 3 shadow weavers isn't zomg amazing, but it is good for a 60 to 90 point unit. It also has pinning, a long range, and eldar are lacking in long range indirect fire weapons. It's a flexible weapon that does well against a large variety of targets.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Well unfortunately for you the internet is full of them, because everybody has one. And zephoid's points just happen to be incredibly valid.

Oh that is completely fine...it's great in fact.

For the barrage it is not really worth it. The weaver batteries are a much better source of barrage firepower.

I am an overall fan of the torrent weapons in general. The average for small blasts going into spread out unit is ~1.5 per blast whereas the with good placement a torrent weapon should always get 5 under the template. The S8 is great against wraiths and can double out Tau and SM which is an extra annoyance. It also ignores all cover which is great to get rid of those annoying cover campers that you may be to busy to turn a WS toward. Finally if you find things like hordes being a problem one of these can really help by wiping out the front ranks of the horde.

I like the synergy of 1-2 of these in a mech type list but I would agree with the overall sentiment that in an unknown list the weaver batteries are an overall better choice. The nightspinner needs to be balanced with the right list.
