Hi! For ages now, my son has been asking me to put up one of our battles here. So here is my first battle report!

My son, Ethan, wanted to use his entire Necron army, which weighs in at 2,500pts. As it wasn't an optimised list, I decided to roll out my IG. I have a pretty large collection, but limited myself to just Cadians, which also reaches 2,500pts, so neither of us will be optimised.

The Imperial Guard

HQ - Company Command Squad with Melta, Banner, Vox and Medic, Nork, Master of Ordnance, Officer of the Fleet and Astropath (Warlord)
HQ - Primaris Psyker

Elite - 10 Storm Troopers with Melta and Plasma
Elite - 10 Ratlings

Troop - Infantry Platoon
Platoon Command Squad with Vox and three Flamers
Infantry Squad with Vox and Grenade Launchers
Infantry Squad with Vox and Grenade Launchers
Heavy Weapons Squad with three Lascannons
Heavy Weapons Squad with three Missile Launchers
Troop - Veteran Squad with Vox and Plasma in Chimera

Fast - Valkyrie with Lascannon, Heavy Bolters and Hellstrike Missiles

Heavy - Leman Russ Vanquisher with Lascannon, Plasma Cannon Sponsons and Pask
Heavy - 2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks with Lascannon and Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Heavy - 2 Leman Russ Demolishers with Lascannon and Multi-melta Sponsons

The Necrons (Double FOC)

HQ - Imotekh the Stormlord (Warlord)
HQ - Anrakyr the Traveller
HQ - Overlord with Resurrection Orb, Warscythe, Phylactory, Sempiternal Weave and Phase Shifter

Elite - 5 Deathmarks
Elite - 5 Lychguard with Hyperphase Sword and Dispersion Shield
Elite - Triarch Stalker
Elite - C'tan with Transdimensional Thunderbolt and Gaze of Death

Troop - 8 Warriors
Troop - 8 Warriors
Troop - 8 Warriors
Troop - 5 Pyrrhian Eternals with Tesla Carbines

Fast - 6 Canoptek Scarabs

Heavy - Annihilation Barge
Heavy - Doom Scythe
Heavy - Doomsday Ark
Heavy - Monolith

We always set up terrain first, so here is the table.

Mission: The Emperor's Will. Deployment: Hammer and Anvil

For Warlord Traits, my Commander got Princeps of Deceit, and Ethan got Immovable Object for Imhotek. I chose Telekinesis for my Primus Psyker, and got Objuration Mechanicum and Telekine Dome. We rolled off for first turn. I won, but chose to go second. Here is Ethan's deployment.

He rolled for Mysterious Objective and got a Grav Wave Generator. As you can see, that meant if I was able to get close enough, I would need a double 6 to charge.

Next, the Imperial Guard setup.

I rolled for Mysterious Objective and got Nothing of Note.

Night Fighting is in effect. We chose to not use Mysterious Terrain.

Necron Turn 1

The Necrons advance up the table. Imhotek uses Kord of the Storm, and manages to kill 3 of my Platoon Command Squad, despite them Going To Ground.

Ethan starts as he means to go on by firing the Doomsday Ark at my Infantry squad guarding the objective They are exactly 36" away! At the prospect of losing my squad, I decide to Go To Ground, increasing my save to 2+, and I only lose 1 Guardsman. The Warriors with Overlord open up on my Vanquisher, and manage to score 1HP.

Anrakyr the Traveller and his Pyrrhian Eternals, and the Annihilation Barge open up on the Infantry squad nearest them, killing 2 Guardsmen. The C'tan rolls a 1 To Hit!

Imperial Guard Turn 1

I mostly stay put, but edge my tanks forward a bit.

Though there are a few juicy targets to choose from, the Scarabs approaching my tanks cannot be allowed to live! I attack them with my Leman Russ squadron, Ratlings and Lascannon Heavy Weapon squad. I manage to kill half of them.

Finally, my Master of Ordinance drops an Artillery Bombardment on Anrakyr and his squad, wiping them all out!

Necron Turn 2

Here is the table at the top of Turn 2.

Imhotek keeps Night Fighting going. Ethan rolls for reserves, but only manages to get his Deathmarks in. The DS into my deployment zone, and choose my Company Command Squad as their target.

Imhotek rolls for Lord of the Storm, hits my Company Command Squad, and wounds Nork!

The Deathmarks open fire on the Company Command Squad, killing the Astropath, Officer of the Fleet and Banner. The Annihilation Barge kills 3 members of the Infantry Squad near it. For the second turn in a row, the C'tan rolls a 1 To Hit!

In the Assault Phase, the Scarabs make it into contact with the Vanquisher. The manage to penetrate it, and blow it up, but loose one base in the explosion!

Imperial Guard Turn 2

My Valkyrie arrives from reserves, with a Storm Trooper squad on board.

The Primus Psyker decides not too close up with the Company Command Squad and becomes a separate unit. He successfully casts Objuration Mechanicum on the Deathmarks, but they Deny the Witch. The Chimera and it's embarked Veteran Squad finish off the Scarabs.

The Leman Russ squadron and Ratlings manage to kill 3 of the Lychguard. The Lascannon Heavy Weapon Squad causes 1 HP on the Triarch Stalker.

The Missile Launcher Heavy Weapons Squad uses Krak on the Annihilation Barge, causing a Weapon Destroyed result.

The rest of the IG take pot shots, but nothing happens!

Necron Turn 3

Night Fighting finally ends, and Ethan gets his final 2 units from reserve - a Monolith and a Doom Scythe. The Warriors and Overlord get in rapid fire range of the Chimera, and wreck it, forcing the Veteran unit out.

The Doom Scythe wipes out the Missile Launcher Heavy Weapons Squad, and the Doomsday Ark manages to blow up one of the Demolishers.

The Monolith finishes off the Infantry Squad, whilst the Deathmarks open up on the Company Command Squad, killing the Master of Ordnance, Vox Caster and Medic. For the third turn in a row, the C'tan rolls a 1 To Hit!

In the Assault Phase, the C'tan charges the Ratlings, and though only one died, they fail their Morale and run 12"!

Imperial Guard Turn 3

The Ratlings manage to regroup, and the Primus Psyker tries to cast Objuration Mechanicum at the Deathmarks again, but they again manage to Deny the Witch! The Leman Russ squadron opens up on Imhotek and his squad, killing all the Lychguard, and causing a HP on the Triarch Stalker. The Lascannon Heavy Weapon Squad then finishes it off.

The Platoon Command Squad Sergeant sees the C'tan looming down on him, takes a shot with his Plasma Pistol, but Get's Hot! and kills himself... The Company Command Squad fires at the Annihilation Barge, managing to wreck it.

The Valkyrie causes 2 HP on the Doom Scythe.

Necron Turn 4

The Doom Scythe fires at the Leman Russ Squadron, wrecking one and causing a HP on the other.

,

The Deathmarks kill the Primus Psyker, and the C'tan rolls a 1 for the fourth time in a row! The Monolith finishes off the Platoon Command Squad, and causes a HP on the Demolisher. The Warrior squad kills all the Company Command Squad except the Commander. Imhotek takes a shot at the Lascannon Heavy Weapons Squad with his Staff of the Destriyer, but rolls a 3 for range and misses! The Warriors with Overlord kill 3 of the Veteran Squad.

In the Assault Phase, the C'tan charges the Commander and kills him, whilst Imhotek charges the Lascannon Heavy Weapons Ssquad, winning combat. However, they pass their Morale test.

Imperial Guard Turn 4

The Ratlings and Demolisher target the C'tan, and between them manage to bring him down! The Valkyrie opens up on the Warrior Squad guarding the objective.

In the Assault Phase, Imhotek and the Heavy Weapons Squad don't cause any hits whatsoever.

Necron Turn 5

The Doom Scythe enters ongoing reserves. The Warrior Squad wrecks the last Demolisher..

The Monolith kills 5 of the Infantry Squad guarding the objective, with the Deathmarks taking down another 2. The Doomsday Ark then fires at them, taking out another one, and 2 Ratlings, lewacving just the Sergeant to hold the objective! The Warriors and Overlord kill another 4 Veterans.

In the Assault Phase, Imhotek causes another 2 Wounds, but the Heavy Weapons Squad does not run.

Imperial Guard Turn 5

The Valkyrie enters Hover Mode, and the Storm Troopers disembark.,

The Imperial Guard Shooting Phase is a disaster, with any wounds that were caused being recovered through Resurrection Protocols. The Assault Phase is no better, with both sides failing to wound. We roll to see if the game ends, but it continues to Turn 6...

Necron Turn 6

Things are looking bad for the Imperial Guard! First the Deathmarks finish off the Infantry Squad guarding the objective, then the Monolith finishes off the Ratlings. The Warriors with Overlord kill the remaining Veterans.

Imhotek finally kills the last Lascannon.

Imperial Guard Turn 6

In a last ditch effort, the Leman Russ fires at the Warrior Squad heading to my objective, but only kills 5 out of 6.

The Valkyrie and Storm Troopers fair a little better by killing the Warriors guarding their objective. The Warriors near my objective pass their Resurrection Protocols and even manage to get close enough to it to capture! We roll to end game, but it continues for one last turn.

Necron Turn 7

Necron shooting doesn't do much, with only a couple of Storm Troopers dying. Imhotek charges the Leman Russ, causing one of the Heavy Bolters to be destroyed.

Imperial Guard Turn 7

I try to get a last minute VP by firing everything at Imhotek, but all shots miss...

Aftermath

And the game ends with a Necron Victory, 5 to 2.

So ends my first battle report. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did playing it!

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

Whoa, was Ethan basically just playing with one of everything from the codex, then?
(Some army lists would have been nice to see)

Gah! Completely forgot about the army lists. Will dig them out and update.

Edit: updated

Edit 2: As I was writing it up, I was not too sure about the level of detail. Do you think I had too much, or not enough?

Nice report, good to see the crons win but the IG gave a good account of themselves. Main tabletop army vs favourite fluff army, table always wins in the end though, shame

I really liked the battle rep, lots of photos was a huge plus. I enjoy them more than video reports! This encouraged me to try a few new units with my Necrons and buy a monolith.

Total agreement it's far easier to follow a pic rep. I'll also hope to get a monolith for my crons after this performance
