To go with this thread about buying codices and supplements it's time for a poll on having GW codices and supplements. Please answer based on which things you have copies of, whether they are legally purchased books, pirated pdfs, or whatever other form you can think of.
Note that I am NOT advocating piracy here, I'm just wondering how the owning vs. buying numbers compare as prices continue to increase. Please do not discuss piracy or where to get pirated copies of GW books.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

What are you, a cop?
I have a DA codex for my first army and borrow a Chaos one from a friend who isn't using it right now. I have "seen" a few others such as Daemons etc. Mostly to help out until I'm able to afford the latest round of rulebook price gouging or to read the fluff.

I have the codexes i use, and a few others that i felt like getting.
All of mine are hard-copy, and well thumbed.
That said, i have no issue with someone 'acquiring' the codexes (as long as they are accurate) so that they don't have to blow 50.00 to find out what their neighbour's Necrons can do.

Well, I have all actual codices and also the old ones. But I will not buy all supplements, only if they contain material I'm playing.

You do not have an option for some codices (for the armies you play) + core rules.
Truth be told I have more codices than I actually use, but that is because I enjoy owning most of the xenos books.

I only own the codices for the armies I own. And the main rulebook, of course. I also have older books, but they follow the same pattern.
I've "acquired" some old codices as well to read the fluff bits and look at pictures, but that's about it. I'm not terribly interested in spending a lot of time reading and rereading information that I'm not going to put to much use. When new codices come out, the internet will usually tell me the pertinent information, and if I have questions when playing against an opponent (which can sometimes be extensive), I'll just ask. I haven't ever come across even the slightest shred of resistance by opponents to telling me what their stuff can do when I ask.

It took me five minutes to tell what the differences were between these two threads... I'm really tired.
Currently all the codex's I have are physical copys, my BT codex came from ebay, my vampire counts from a flgs, high elves (old edition) from ebay, 5th and 6th 40k mini rulebooks from ebay, and 2 copies of the mini fantasy rulebook... one I got from ebay... the other might hve been ebay as well.
So yeah I own every codex I have, no pirated copys.

I own hard copies for anything I actually use. I have PDFs for everything else just to make sure I know what I am facing, and in some cases to plan for future armies.

Title and text are a bit contradictory. Title asks if own, post asks if have.
I have all but GW isn't getting a cent from me because of regional price gouging.

I used to buy every single codex, supplement, expansion and rule-book.
These days I just arrange it so that I have them.

You don't need "all codexes" for regular games.
I bought my 40k Ork one as part of an online auction for Ork models, and was given my Fantasy O&G one for free. Don't know what option to click for that

I have purchased from GW and own my necron codex, the tiny BRB from a starter set I got off ebay.
I have read and know pretty much all the codices in 40k thoufh they may have been obtained through ways that may be frowned upon by others

I only buy what I play. As expensive as this hobby is, you've got to cut costs somewhere, and with the recent shift to hardcover, full-color books, I don't have nearly enough budget to drop 50 bucks on a codex that I might read once and never use again.

I own all the Codices from 2nd Ed onwards up until the last quarter of 2012 (normally bought on day of release), then it lost it's value for me. I don't even own the WoC and HE books yet and I have those armies. I also own all the IA books up to IA11 but when they decided to reprint £45+ books and not offer a cheaper rules-only update as well I decided enough was enough.
I've still been spending £100s on wargaming, just not with GW.

I only have the codexes for armies I own plus the 40k and Apoc BRB's.
All purchased legally - no slight intended to those making a different choice, I just wouldn't feel comfortable any other way.

I have every codex, supplement and almost every FW-book.
It's quite useful when I want to know how my friends' armies work, when people want to know a rule or when I am discussing something in YMDC.
And since they are on my dropbox I can always access them from everywhere.
That is quite important because we always have 'the guy who forgot to bring his codex and forgot what a rule did'.
The only problem is that my dropbox is getting quite full now, so I am 'optimising' every pdf.
That works quite fine, since the average 60MB-pdf goes down to only 16MB.
But I do buy every codex that I play.
Not because "it's the right thing to do", but because a book is just so much better to have than a pdf.
