Again, sorry if this is the wrong forum, but -

Are you allowed to use non GW shop models as bases in WH40k? I'd use the Games Workshop actual, welll, model bases of course, but I went browsing the interwebs and found something I'd really love to use for the basis of a canoness for my new sisters. I'd add bits from GW to it, of course, but...is something like that allowed? :s

(soon to be) 500 points.

It really depends on where you play, who you play with and if its a tournament what the TO has decreed at the time. The most likely no you'd get would be in a GW store playing if they recognised it as a non-GW base model however the leniency there can vary on a store by store basis.

To summarise, in general and not in GW Stores its OK.
In tournaments ask the TO.

GW does not allow non-GW models in their stores.

You may be able to squeeze by with custom resin bases and some 3rd party bits here and there on the models.

It can hurt their sales if people start to buy alternative models after seeing you use yours in their store.

If you play at a friends house or some independent store then it is really up to them to form the ground rules for what models are allowed.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I've played with the odd non-GW model at a GW store before - mostly as part of kit bashes for larger daemons and it was not obvious where all the parts came from, or that it was mostly non-GW.

However it is correct that generally non-GW models will get you a "no" at GW stores. I would suggest that if there are not many in your army and you don't point it out then most people will not notice and/or care.
