So this is the start of a new army for me. I mainly want to have a primarily flyer and jetbike based army, with a Dark Eldar force as my main detachment. As far as fluff goes, I envision them as mercenaries and slavers, who dwell in a secret location within the webway, and have deviated from both Dark Eldar and Eldar culture.

Maybe not perfectly strict interpretation of canon, but it's my army.

Here's what I've painted up so far. I plan on eventually having an 1850 pt list with a variety of aircraft and few ground troops. Not sure it will work on the table, I mainly bought these models because I liked the look of them.

The force so far:

Windriders, eventually I want 6 with a Farseer on a bike as well:

Reavers, I really love this model, very fun to build. I magnetized all the weapons options but it seems like the heat lance is the way to go:

Vypers, got a 3rd in the works. I magnetized every single weapon option, and even painted the cockpit, although you can hardly see it with the canopy on:

Venom, eventually want 4 of them:

The basing, which I wanted to look like an alien desert planet:

Up next will be a Razorwing Jetfighter and Crimson Skyhunter.

Hope you enjoy, C&C welcome

I think they look amazing! A nice sized force looking like this is going to be looking great on the field.

P.S. - Who cares if it does't work, I am all about buying/painting what you want.

Thanks! I love doing basing, there's actually low-grade gold ore from an underground mine in Colorado glued onto the bases here, among other things. Very low grade gold ore lol.

I like the paint scheme and can't wait to see your characters!

Yeah mostly pyrite in decomposed schist, from central city. But believe it or not, pyrite (fools gold) can actually host gold inside its crystal structure and in micropits on the crystal surface.

Source: I'm a geologist at a gold mine in Colorado (not in central city).

Those look great and very unique for a dark eldar force. Interested to see what the armor on the non-mechanized units will look like.

Hey gang thanks for the kind comments.

On the bases, what I'm doing now is using floor tile adhesive for the groundwork. It's like cake batter and dries slowly and fluffy, like sand dunes, and it's cheap. Then while it's still wet I push in some larger rock chunks and maybe a few smaller pieces and sculpt it around them to make them look embedded in sand.

Let that dry then apply super glue around the rocks and sprinkle on mixed sand of various sizes to represent weathered rock breaking off the outcrops. You want varied sand size or it looks too uniform. Just collect it from your backyard or a park, its FREE! Then I primer it up with grey automotive primer, which is cheap and hard to chip.

Follow that up with a basecoat of cheap walmart craft paints wet-mixed to vary the colors and some gryphonne sepia or flesh shade to represent oxidized fines, drybrush, then super glue on crushed tea leaves to make up mixed debris and dead plants.

I also bought some fake plastic plants from Hobby Lobby to cut up as alien vegetation. Real pain to trim the mold lines off those!

Clear coat with krylon matte coat to protect it all.

Finally glue on the flocking and stuff!

Very nice color composition overall. Keep up the good work.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-

"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

Excellent stuff, the scheme works really well and the eldar/dark eldar are working well together too. I particularly like the venoms. Very much looking forward to seeing what you make of the fliers!

This is a very nice army, I really like the color scheme that is broken up by the bright blues. Unfortunately, looking at it on the table would constantly remind me how much cooler looking the Dark Eldar jetbikes are to the older, Eldar jetbikes. I'm surprised you kept the old Eldar guardians on the bikes, but it does actually create some charming nostalgia for me! The only thing missing would be the shuriken cannon pilot with the leather jacket, but your conversion is top notch as well. I'm looking forward to seeing more units in this army.

Thanks man, yeah the Eldar jetbikes are a bit long in the tooth. Early 90s model? They just repackaged the kit this year for the new codex release. I see them as the Harley chopper of jetbikes, while the Dark Eldar are the crotch rockets.

Have you thought about putting a sail from a Raider on a venom? it really changes the silhouette, and looks badass. Not that these don't already, they're really good.

Fantastic looking force. I'm not the biggest expert in DE and Eldar fluff, but your army sounds plausible within the 40K universe.
