I just recently got back into 40k. I haven't played or modeled since 2nd edition. the game has changed quite a bit. I decided to try my hand at a sternguard conversion. I recently discovered anvil industries and their site gave me some ideas. I figured with the Romanesque nature of the Ultramarines a Spartan helmet wasn't too far off.

regular SM legs are kind of boring so I did some freehand work on the knees and shins as well as on the shoulder pad. I am trying to decide if I want to try some greenstuff for the shins or continue with the free hand paint scheme. I am really enjoying painting and modeling again and I am glad to see that my painting skills haven't deteriorated too badly since high school.

Let me know what you think and if you have any advice.

Those look good. I would say your skills are still good. I like the free hand painting you did as well.

Looks good, especially the helmets. I'd really like to see that first one painted.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Here is the Sargent painted. Sorry for the quality of the pic my camera on my phone isn't great. When I finish the squad I'll take some higher quality pics.

very nice.

Are the weapons from the kit, or from anvil?

thanks for sharing.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and to hear the lamentations of the women.

I always imagine space marines to be gladiators in space for some reason....these complete that! Good work and well painted by the way!

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!

Great stuff, nice and neat, and the aesthetic works well. Anvil stuff is awesome, and you've done it justice. Well done!

They really remind me of Spartans from 300. Which is good because there is a clip set to the song "Blow Me Away" of that film that really, would be perfect if redone exactly featuring SMs and Traitor Guard.

It looks really good too, and I like how they are posed similarly to the old metal/Finecast sculpts.
