This came up in a game tonight, slightly surprised that I haven;t had it come up before.
The rule for Lone models and charging says "when charging, a model must follow the normal charge rules, which do not allow pivots, only one wheel while moving" etc

The question is, can the model pivot before declaring a charge, so that it is not pivoting "when charging"? I have always assumed that it could not do this, but I think the question has some merit.

They pivot instead of wheeling.

You can do either up to 90 degrees during the move of a legal charge.

Not sure what the issue is.

You can start from _ and charge ! directly, as that's 90 degrees, as I read it.
That is basically true with units though.

They follow they same rules for charging as in the unit must be in charge arc.
It must be in a straight line.
The they pivot/wheel up to 90 degrees like a unit.

Dissent is not disloyalty.

Absolutely not. You cannot touch/move any unit before declaring a charge (leaving particular movers out of the equation for a second), and then you're in the process of charging. Pivoting before a charge declaration would mean that every lone character and monster had a 360 degree charge arc and there is simply no basis for that.

Also, you're allowed one free wheel during a charge, not one free pivot.

That's where I was headed..this is phrased much better.
