Wondering Why the Emperor Left
Boston, MA
|
Hello Dakka,
I really hate the new centurion models, but I love the idea of space marine broadsides. Would you accept http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/CASTELLAX_BATTLE_AUTOMATA.html as a legitimate counts-as model? Thanks for your opinions.
- Max

It is true that nothing desirable is given to us for free. The only thing we can be certain about is a mundane, repetitive, and thoughtless existence. Improving our lives takes dedication and hard work, as our dreams won't simply become reality. Those who give up trying to better themselves get stuck in a state of hopelessness with no aspirations or goals. They live only in the depressing present. They blend into the crowd of people stuck in the same place and their lives slowly drain their hopes and desires. Seeing people in this situation is disheartening, but no situation is absolutely hopeless. Any situation can be changed if there is a will to change it. |

I don't think it's a matter of "would you accept this" as that's more of a personal basis. When it comes to tournaments they each have their own set of rules and if it's a GW tournament then it may be a little more strict.
Personally in a home grown or gaming club tournament I'd say yes, in anything official probably not.

You'll be seeing a lot of counts-as / conversions to avoid the terrible official models for these. I think these would be fine, you just need to ask the TO if it is questionable (like any model). I think folks would prefer to play against these

The increase in size is fine for cc units. People may bitch about the extra height if it gives an advantage for los/cover on a grav gun unit, which can easily be countered by saying lower los to what your opponent thinks a centurian should be. Most people won't bitch because the fw models are better looking and more expensive.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

If you did something to make them look more space marine, I'd be fine. Personally, I think the centurion models could be okay with some conversion work.

I don't think they would need to be made to look more Space Marine. Back in the first incarnation of Imperial Robots, Space Marines actually felt more comfortable fighting alongside robots than "normal" human troops. Even going as far as giving special battle-honors to Maniples that held their own during difficult combat actions alongside a Chapter.

No, both because the model is too big and also I believe that anyone who uses counts as for a better model is doomed to get a miniature inferior to the original.

The last one I knew they sponsored was 'Ard Boys and that's now history.
As far as I know, GW has turned their back on the player base, so we have no obligation to use their models if better alts exist.
Don't get me wrong. When GW produces kits I like, I buy their models. I just don't feel obliged to use them and neither should you.

And why do you want centurions in your army max? There's nothing yet saying they're not the new LS vengeance.

They might be a little taller than Centurions, but I think they would work ok.
The increased LoS is countered by it being more difficult to get cover.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the reasoning for Space Marines to get Gravity weapons.
Codex: Mechsnicus? Yes.
Codex: Space Marines? ... makes no sense at all.
And that doesn't even mention the whole "Ultramarine Crisis Suit" theme.

Sure it does. Grav weapons were in 2nd edition.
That model is way to big for a stand-in for the centurions, not to mention a wee bit expensive to assemble a unit. The centurions are supposed to fit between terminators.and dreadnoughts, and the bqttle robots are.dreadnought sized.
