Finally decided to take the plunge and build an army for FoW. Being that I'm a bit of a tread head and fan of the M4 Sherman, I've decided to use the US Tank Company list from the BG&G sourcebook.

7th AD Tank Company (CT)

HQ: 1 x M4A3, 1 x M4A3E8 = 190

Tank Platoon #1: 2 x M4A3, 2 x M4A3E8 = 375
Tank Platoon #2: 2 x M4A3, 2 x M4A3E8 = 375

Corps TD Platoon (CT): Command Jeep, 2 x M20, 4 x M18 TD = 315

Cavalry Recon Platoon (CT): Command M8, Mortar Jeep, Recon Jeep = 70

Armored Field Artillery Battery (CT): 3 M7 priest, M2, M4A3 observer = 180

Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Self-Propelled) Platoon (CV): 2 x M16 MGMC & 2 x M15 CGMC = 200

Air Observation Post: L4 Grasshopper = 40

Total 6 platoons, 1745 points

So....good? Bad? Terrible? As always any comments are welcome. One modification I'm considering is to replace the TD's with a full Assault Gun Platoon with 6 M4A3 (105) for 5 more points, putting me at 1750 exactly. Not sure if this is a good idea though.

The list is a good starting point but if you're going to play Trained US armour you need to add in some Jumbos. Jumbos are the heart and soul of the list as they help keep your tanks alive which will be a problem with the trained rating.

Personally I would either drop the TD's (I don't think you need them in my list) or turn the Priests into Armoured Mortars and use the spare points to add in some Jumbos. I think 3 Jumbos is the magic number with the 2ic being one of them as then he can jump from platoon to platoon as needed.

Hope that helps

So, using the above recommendations, I've come up with this:

7th AD Tank Company (CT)

HQ: 1 x M4A3E2, 1 x M4A3E8 = 235

Tank Platoon #1: 1 x M4A3E2, 2 x M4A3E8, 1 x M4A3 = 420
Tank Platoon #2: 1 x M4A3E2, 2 x M4A3E8, 1 x M4A3 = 420

Armored Mortar Platoon (CT): Command Carbine, 1 M2, 3 x M4 81mm MMC = 85

Cavalry Recon Platoon (CT): Command M8, Mortar Jeep, Recon Jeep = 70

Armored Field Artillery Battery (CT): 3 M7 priest, M2, M4A3 observer = 180

Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Self-Propelled) Platoon (CT): 2 x M16 MGMC & 2 x M15 CGMC = 150

Air Observation Post: L4 Grasshopper = 40

Total 6 platoons, 1600 points

I have 150 points left over and can't decide where to spend them. I would like to avoid infantry as my eyesight isn't good enough to paint them well at that small scale. With the 150 points I can get Limited P-47 air support or, if I drop the extras on the Armored Field Artillery Battery, a Sherman Assault Gun Platoon with 3 M4A3 (105).

Thats basically my list but I have Patton and Stuarts instead of anti air (don't really face a lot of air support those days).

So I'm going to say nice list!

Thanks. I appreciate the help. I want to stay away from Warriors for the time being until I get a bit of experience with the game. As for the AAA, I figure if there's no air support in the enemy force I can always use it to shoot up opposing infantry to good effect, which is just what the M16 MGMC did during the war. And I did find another use for the extra 160 points....a Light Tank Platoon with 4 x M5 Stuarts is 160 points and would be a good fit. If the AAA turns out to be less effective than I hope I can remove it and add a Stuart to the Light tank Platoon, add a Jeep, M2 and upgrade the M4 to an M4A3 to the AFAB and take Patton. I know that an odd number of platoons is frowned upon due to the way moral works but I can deal with it.

So with that my list is as follows:

So, using the above recommendations, I've come up with this:

7th AD Tank Company (CT)

HQ: 1 x M4A3E2, 1 x M4A3E8 = 235

Tank Platoon #1: 1 x M4A3E2, 2 x M4A3E8, 1 x M4A3 = 420
Tank Platoon #2: 1 x M4A3E2, 2 x M4A3E8, 1 x M4A3 = 420

Light Tank Platoon (CT): 4 x M5A1 Stuarts = 160

Armored Mortar Platoon (CT): Command Carbine, 1 M2, 3 x M4 81mm MMC = 85

Cavalry Recon Platoon (CT): Command M8, Mortar Jeep, Recon Jeep = 70

Armored Field Artillery Battery (CT): 3 M7 priest, M4 observer = 170

Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Self-Propelled) Platoon (CT): 2 x M16 MGMC & 2 x M15 CGMC = 150

Air Observation Post: L4 Grasshopper = 40

Total 7 platoons, 1750 points

I can understand not wanting to take the special characters, I'm just a massive Patton fan (one of my favourite movies of all time). You are write about the AA being good anti infantry but I might look to drop it to upgrade the Recon and Artillery into Veteran units. The recon is a "weak" point in the army VP wise, making them veteran makes them more survivable and better at spreading out and stopping ambushes.

I'd also add .50 cals to the mortars, stops infantry from thinking about charging them and mean they can double up as a mobile MG platoon if you catch infantry in the open. 12 shots is pretty good for a small points increase.

7th AD Tank Company (CT)

HQ: 1 x M4A3E2, 1 x M4A3E8 = 235

Tank Platoon #1: 1 x M4A3E2, 2 x M4A3E8, 1 x M4A3 = 420
Tank Platoon #2: 1 x M4A3E2, 2 x M4A3E8, 1 x M4A3 = 420

Light Tank Platoon (CT): 5 x M5A1 Stuarts = 200

Armored Mortar Platoon (CT): Command Carbine, 1 M2, 3 x M4 81mm MMC + .50 cals = 100

Cavalry Recon Platoon (CV): Command M8, Mortar Jeep, Recon Jeep = 90

Armored Field Artillery Battery (CV): 3 M7 priest, M4 observer = 220

Air Observation Post: L4 Grasshopper = 40

1745pts

SIx platoons.

I think you now have a few different good lists to work with, now I think it's time to play a few games and see how it all works out for you.

Hope this helps
