High im new to Dakka obviously, i was referred to this site by a friend.
Im mainly interested in 40k. Ive played a few game with friends using
the armies they let me barrow, including Ultramarines, Salamanders,
Tau, Thousand Sons, Red Scorpions, Chaos Demons, Tyranids,and
Tau. Ive played maybe 15-20 games so i dont feel like im a complete
newb buti still have alot of room for improvement. Im looking to purchase
an army for myself but there are just so many options! I would like to get
some suggestions on what armies you guys think are best and why
before i make a major purchase. Anyway thanks for you time and i look
foward to hearing all your suggestions.

Hi and welcome to dakkadakka!
To choose your first army I'd say look at the models of the different armies and choose which ever one you like best. Since you have already played a few games and know the rules a bit (or more than a bit), you could also think about what type of army you want. Close combat orientated? Shooty?
The 'best' armies are usually the ones that have recently been updated (Eldar and Tau atm).
