Has anyone ever had success with this thing?...
I grabbed it in some leisure games with some friends and laughed because 2 turns in a row I rolled 1s to spawn units of INF... Q_Q
So I grabbed my 1 Daemonette and threw it at a swarm lord for giggles...
But Just wondering if anyone else has had better luck in taking it

In low point games (<1000) they can be a real pain in the ass. I know whenever one comes out I shoot at it first.
In higher point games small units of weak daemons aren't ame changing.

When used in the right way its very good, recently at a small tourny I had models spawn out of it turn 5 and score opponents objective in emperors will, he conceeded at that point. On the weekend at another small tourny I spawned troops into the objective winning me that game as well.
I find it good with the list I run as I am low on troops anyway, and dont usually use it until later turns so my opponents army is much reducuded and he will have to spilt his fire between what units I have in his deployment (usually hounds fatey screamers) plus any troops that have come out of the portal, plus the portal itself, then lastely what other troops I have scoring objectives.
Its not 100% certain to spawn each turn but it can be game winning if done right.

That's the thing, it doesn't matter how threatening those small units of Daemons are, because they are still scoring Troops that are getting spat out when you least expect it. It is something to be taken seriously no doubt.

See my problem with it is that my opponents see it as free FB
So in any game where I take it for giggles, it basically gets gunned down immediately OR I'm rolling statistically terrible with it... Even had a Tervigaunt go out of its way to smash the poor things when my 4D6 scatter roll went straight back to his deployment zone lol

So they waste shooting on it instead of your important units; what's the problem with that?

I make a little castle in the corner of the map, with a Bastion blocking line of sight to the corner, and drop the Glyph there. 2/4 directions it cannot scatter at all (because of board edges) and other scatters often scatter into the Bastion and get reduced. Then my Troops come out and score the objective in the corner and man the Bastion.
Bastion also doubles as a hiding place for my FMCs before they can start flying.

Well, when a Terv is just pooping out Gaunts and is like "what dis ting?" and smacks my poor defenseless little portal he isnt really wasting anything on it.. lol
Half the time It's something silly like a rogue ordinance shot that pens it and kills it anyways (1HP is awesome that way)
I have only ever had an opponent waste more than 1 unit on killing it, once. And that was dumb luck with his unfort rolls from his Predator =(

Cheap way to potentially bring extra scoring units in. Definitely worth its points in some builds.
Aim for a board corner outside of as much LOS as possible and leave it be.

A good friend of mine plays daemons and runs a portaglyph from time to time with his daemonettes.
What I have found is the following:
1) Don't play it in a kill point game if you can help it.
2) They are great at taking/contesting objectives w/o requiring you to divert your main force away from it.
3) The small units can somewhat tarpit an enemy as well as provide cover should they be shot through.
4) It diverts shots away from the troops that matter.
I play necrons usually and if I have even 3 daemonettes within charge range the next turn, I have to target it else I run the risk of losing a squad in CC if my MSS lord doesn't get into base to base. They are small, somewhat humorous distractions; however, you can use it to your advantage a lot.
Just remember, really think hard before using it in a kill point game.

Also remember a 1 man plaguebearer unit can score an objective and a 1 thing pink horror unit still gets 1 warp charge for flickering fire, so just as effective as a small unit.
Additionally if you are gaming the warp storm table additional units can be useful. Not something to count on but useful. Use it all the time unless playing KP...then whatever you do do not drop the glyph.

Well dont forget if spawning horrors you wont be able to shoot with them. The usual house rule is to roll or default to the primaris for their powers but you wont generate any warp charges until start of the next turn.
Kill points, there are other hellforged or even exalted rewards to take instead, the if it dies goes into reserves is quite a good roll for kill points.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

You just roll on the exalted reward chart, you don't have to take it. So in a killpoint game, take something else, preferably the grimoire, which is more useful for KP.
Also, you don't have to drop the Portalglyph first turn. Feel free to hang back with it until more targets are crowding your enemy's guns to put it down.
Try and resist the urge to hail mary it right into your opponent's face. They'll just swat it down without having to allocate any real resources. Plunk it down somewhere in cover. Make your opponent have to work at killing it. That's 30 points being shot at by way more points.
Remember, it says it can be dropped at any time in the movement phase. Give it to something deepstriking, then plunk it down. And then try and spawn extra dudes in ur base. It's a pretty useful addition for chain deepstriking your daemon paratroopers behind enemy lines, giving them a potential 2 extra targets to clog up the guns.

I have just played a game with and a game against daemons with a portaglyph and do not understand why you would not take one. For the points, well worth it!
When i played against one i could only destroy with a termicide squad due to good placement and more Pink Horrors than i care remember had come out before i destroyed it.
When i played with one, in a 2 vs 1 game, again there were numerous horrors produced from the portaglyph that, ultimately, won the game for the Daemons and my CSM allies.

The only problem I have with it is that it stops you from taking more juicy Greater Rewards.
Especially on the Greater Demons I really want two chances at 4+ FNP/re-roll saves.

I like taking it on Heralds or Daemon Princes. Heralds don't need greater rewards as much. And Daemon Princes have a 3+ save, so less greater rewards are needed.
Also, on Greater/Daemon Princes, always roll for the exalted before swapping. You can get a free lesser reward or rift bringer. While similar, riftbringer can bring more troops and they aren't limited to "disembarking" from the portal.
I think Horrors and Plague Bearers are good when a low number is rolled. Daemonettes are good for running towards objectives. I would only take Bloodletters when being summoned from Warp Storm or Riftbringer, and only when 10-15 is rolled. They just die too easily whem trying to assault things.

It's fantastic, but not user friendly.
#1: Roll for an exalted reward instead if playing kp
#2 Don't deploy it before first blood is scored, it hangs around just fine undeployed and doesn't have a shelf life. Timing it's release is far more important than the potential to gain 1 extra roll for more troops.
#3 Don't deploy it into the middle of the enemy army. It's best deployed on a board edge or corner to control the scatter. It might also require waiting until turn 2 or 3 to deploy it.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Portaglyph doesn't HAVE to be taken, that's why it rules. Free scoring units... or whatever else you rolled if not playing objectives!

I love the hell out of it, I bring it almost every game on a nurgle herald. I spawn pink horrors out of it who usually chill behind my PBs. No matter how few horrors you get, it is always 2D6 flickering fire!

This. Proper placement of the Portalglyph will prevent or greatly reduce the chance of bad scatters.
If it's available, could you use Fateweaver's Staff of Tomorrow to reroll just the scatter die? It is a D6 after all. Automatically Appended Next Post:
I would always at least roll on the Exalted table instead of auto-picking the Portalglyph. You might get the free Lesser Reward.
