All of that sounds awesome... *EXCEPT* for the plastic surgery.
Mind you, most millionaires are not silly enough to blow all that cash on all of this... either they're lottery winners and this would eat a majority out of the "early retirement fund", or they've made substantial money off their own back and could probably arrange to pick and choose similar prizes to their own specifications for cheaper. After all, it's not *what* you know...

I think someone priced it out, and not including the plastic surgery or the shopping (as those could fluctuate) it only comes out to under 700,000 dollars.

Really? I'd love to see a source on that that breaks it down. If true, it's... well, ridiculous. The shopping is actually a personal shopper - that is, it's an assistant that does your shopping for you - so that could be (generously!) priced at $30- 40k if we assume a year. That leaves $260-70k for the plastic surgery... O.o

The original price from where I found this list said the Martha Jefferson suite was 4900 for the week's stay. When I went and looked it it, it said 8 grand a night... I would almost expect the Dubai hotel to be far more expensive... Even if it tied the price of the Jefferson hotel day, you're still about 250k away

And the case isn't plated with gold. Though having the disc being made of actual gold (or maybe platinum) probably would make it unplayable.

In theory it could maybe work. I just had to look up how a cd actually stores data and it's just minuscule bumps on the surface in a spiral. I couldn't find anything about it needing to be non-conductive or anything, so I guess you could potentially have a gold or platinum disc!
Please correct me if I'm wrong, my "research" consisted of Googling "how do cds store data" and reading most of the howstuffworks.com article that came up haha.

A CD/DVD, etc stores data on a series of tracks marked on the disc. In a conventional DVD player this information is read by a laser which moves along the disc to designated areas of data stored as sectors (ie areas of related data). So in effect its similar to how an old LP would work, it just happens that the laser that reads the data can move between tracks instead of having to read the information as one contiguous stream.
So as the information's just burned on a disc I would assume that the material could be metal. However I doubt it'd be a very efficient (metal is porous, so these would interfere with the tracks) or even safe (ie lots of heat would be generated) material.
Then again, you're a millionaire, you can afford to buy another copy of the damn thing...
Oh, though I may well be talking out of my ass. I know how the software side of things work, but the hardware's for the techies to deal with. =)

I preordered it almost a month ago, and got an email today from amazon saying they were having trouble processing my payment, due to them deciding to bill it to a debit card I deleted from my account when it was stolen two years ago (why they couldn't tell me this four weeks ago I have no idea)
It hasn't been dispatched today, meaning that it'll be sent out tomorrow.
It'll be sent out tomorrow, so (unless im stupendously lucky) it'll arrive after the weekend.
Monday is a bank holiday, so my month old preorder, ordered so I could play it over the bank holiday weekend, won't arrive till Tuesday at the earliest.
I am rather pissed off that I won't be able to play SR4 tomorrow.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |
