Has anyone tried this tactic?

30 gretchins, 3 runtherds and Mad Doc going after anything close, with FNP and fearless, this could potentially bog down a unit or two.

Is it worth the points cost to effectively field a suicide unit?

I dont think your unit would be very cost effective for what youre trying to accomplish. A squad of 30 regular boyz is a lot cheaper and can pull off what youre trying to accomplish. Another thing to consider is if your opponent is running a lot of strength 6+ shooting would destroy your gretchin as it would ignore your FnP or even worse if they have enfeeble and strength 4+ would ruin your day.

Aren't gretchin t2 anyways? Everything except Lasguns is ignoring that FnP...

Mhmm that is very true! It sounded a much better tactic in my head haha. Still tempted to try it, as they would (hopefully) aim their shots at the gretchin tar pit, giving my boys a bit of a safer run up!

True! However a mob of fearless gretchins charging at you, the whole mob will have to be taken out or else they're gonna be locked in combat!

Cant argue with that.

i wouldnt bother giving them cyborks and just have it be a delivery system. Thats 33 wounds (counting the runtherders) for Grotsnik to charge something, and since he is fearless on his own no leadership issues.

However, still dont think its worth it lol but it would be funny.

I tried it one time (a couple times) because my buddy kept using his droppod dread to bait a grotsnik and boyz unit across the map into utter uselessness. I figured if I made the unit cheap with grots it'll be worth it no matter where he goes.

It wasn't too bad pointswise I was trading him a 200 point unit for a 200 point unit, but the grots double out (no FnP) and the Mad Dok will roll mercilessly on any vehicle that explodes for Str 4 hits.

Besides when I put the mad dok with some cheap boyz and a nob I seem to roll 5's and 6's like it's my job (and my friend hates it).

EDIT; If you want to run the Mad Dok with some boyz be ready to have enough fire support that you can handle distraction units before the make the Mad Dok's unit useless.
