Subject: Is it bad I feel like switching codex's again?

Quick-fingered Warlord Moderatus

I started the game with codex marines a year back, and after getting my arse handed to me in almost every game, I decided to switch to Dark angels. I loved thier lists and began winning a lot, especially with my Ravenwing list, but now the games are starting to feel... boring. I basically got stuck using the banner of devastation in every game because it really is the best in force multiplication, but I don't feel I can Change that much from it.
Maybe i'm too dumb to think about it, but it seems to me that I can only play RW that one way now, and that there is hardly anything to fix that. It feels there is way to much to worry about, and the bikers shooting are way to fragile to last all game.
But as the new codex stars to creep up, I'm looking longingly at the white scars, with Khan and all the other good bits. Just from rumors alone, it sounds like he can make bikes just as good, if not better than the RW, and each unit feels strong/ tough on it's own. It doesn't look like it needs 3 different units all huddled around a land raider to deal damage, and the bigger, cheaper squads with better saves just look to appealing.
I'm now torn between staying with the Dark angels, (Guardians of the Covenant) and jumping to this new codex for more fun and variety. Would I be mocked for switching so fast while keeping the army the same?

I dont believe so. I love running bikes and cant wait for the new sm codex to come out. I have a tendency of just picking up a codex and building a list. I have models that make it so I can play almost any sm codex with little issue. Yes I have enjoyed playing rw but I cant wait to go back to playing a scars list again.

Yes. You will be mocked and possibly publicly flogged for jumping ship. Your peers will believe you are TFG simply because you couldn't help yourself by jumping on the latest hotness rendering their *old* armies as nothing more than last months fad. Your girlfriend ( or potential partner ) will think you have an inability to commit and either become very clingy or dump you. The Inner Circle will add you to their list of Fallen to track down. /sarcasm. It's a game. If you want the new shiny, get it and have fun! The only requirement is that you post a battle report or two..

There's a term for this - "shiny syndrome". It's only natural to want the fancy new stuff, the trick is not to get bored of it later. Unfortunately you've suffered that already.
In your case it's even more understandable because you tried with normal Marines first, so it's kinda like you're returning to the fold now that they're about to have a resurgence. If you did want to try something different with Dark Angels though, simply try taking a different banner (the Ravenwing one is naturally a decent fit), but also mix up your other units, try playing games of different points values, something to make you change your standard choices. One banner doth not an army maketh, after all.

Allies lets you dabble, and you need a codex for each ally.
So, buy the book, and some new models for it. Or, just proxy what you have.
Jumping on the bandwagon is common enough, and no-one cares. You're learning how the army works, so you can fight them better when you face them next time.

Why don't you start off with allies, or proxy your RW as White Scars? get to grips with the Codex, if you like it buy the force if you don't, you can sell off the codex and not have lost too much

Allies for Ravenwing + White Scars probably won't work out that great, lately FOC shenanigans only works in the primary detachment so they won't both be able to have bikes as Troops.

When I started 40k in 5th edition, I narrowed down my choice of army to either Grey Knights, Necrons, or Blood Angels.
I went with Blood Angels because they could run multiple different kinds of army lists (vehicle, jump infantry, etc).
I now own a full force of Blood Angels. I also own a full force of Grey Knights. And Necrons. And Tau. And Tyranids. I'm also eyeing Imperial Guard, but waiting to see what happens with the next codex.
Why stop with one army?

Like its been said, its your models play how you want to play. I know I'll probably be using SM for my DA just to try them out.
Though we'll both be added to the Inner Circle's list

It's normal to want variety and to switch up play styles after a while. There are a few hobbyists out there that are really drawn to one particular army and they can just expand/stick to that force until it reaches thousands of points.
Right now I own: Tau and CSM which I use frequently and I shelved a draigowing army with IG allies as it is very bland.
Everytime a new army is released I secretly hope that the models will be terrible as I don't want to be tempted to start anything new.
I have a feeling that a FW mechanicus and 30k ravenguard army are in my future though.... sigh. Also if SoB get awesome plastics one day.... well GG shelf space.

I find it slightly ironic that here people say its fine to do so yet if it happens with their opponents they scream cheese and FotM.
Not that there is anything wrong with ship jumping, its fine. Your models, do what you like but I will say be prepared to face those people who call you TFG and bandwagoner

It's not that bad in my opinion.
You just have to ask yourself: "Do I want to play Dark Angels or do I want to play a biker-army?"
If you don't care about DA, but just want a biker-army, then there is no shame in switching to an army that supports your tactic better.
Some time ago I made a great BA-list.
Just like you I found out that the new C: SM-codex does the tactic better than my current codex; I can get the same list for 200 points less.
I really don't care if people are going to complain, I am just going to switch.
Not because it's stronger, but because they are better supported and I can field more models (fielding more models is always good in a modeling-game).

Up until the girlfriend part everything will probably happen like that.

it's not like i'm going to start a new army though (don't have enough $ for that .__.) but i will use my already painted Guardians of the covenant as white scars. I guess we can just say that the Guardian's second company has a slightly different feel to it, and has a few more toys to play with?
I love the fluff for the Dark Angels and Unforgiven, but these new toys are just so tempting

People were using white scars as DA when the new DA book came out. There is nothing wrong with doing the opposite when the new codex SM hits the shelves. This is one advantage of playing a marine army.
Certainly the appeal of codex DA has paled when compared to the hype surrounding the new toys of the eldar and tau. Also their effectiveness on the table has been reduced, with the arrival of mass cover removal and other additions as more codices reach 6th edition.
In many ways the DA book was a little lacklustre even at the time of its release, now with more powerful units being added to other books, most competitive DA lists must revolve around 1 or 2 gimmicks, such as the dakka banner. This can get boring quite fast, so it's understandable to want to try something new.
At the end of the day, just do it. It will cost you very little. You have space marine bikes already. It wont set you back much just to buy the new codex and you already have an army ready to boot. So just give it a go and stick with which codex you prefer.
