Yep, GW pulled those from the website. We all know what that means, THE RELEASE IS ALMOST HERE!!!

Thoughts?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also the Company formations have been pulled (or realistically, the ones that had tactical squads). Could we see them get the new commander clamsacks and tactical marine boxes? Maybe even a Reclusium Command squad?

We've had some pretty solid rumors this time, so I've been able to collect my thoughts on this.

Most of the changes we knew were coming did. Transport capacity down to the same level as everyone else, book only (rolled) psychic powers, price drops to DA levels. I think my librarian is going to be seeing more shelf time. The only LR variant I own is the classic one, and not being able to run a 5 man terminator squad plus a HQ is going to hurt. Not sure if I'll pick up a LRC/LRR to continue running that combo, or see if Vanguard vets can step up and fill the role.

I don't like the new units. Centurions look a little goofy, particularly the assault ones. The dev version isn't so bad, but I don't see them filling a role I can't do better with better looking, more fluff compliant units. While the AA tanks look cool, they are a mono-tasker, which I try to avoid.

Chapter tactics for me are a no-brainer. I field Ultramarines, so will use those rules. I generally play a TAC, little bit from everywhere lists, so should be able to get good milage from the threefold rules. It will slant how I make my lists, probably field more dev squads, rather then tanks/other stuff.

I plan on picking up the codex (basic version) and one of each of the new tactical, sternguard, and vanguard boxes. I suspect any grav guns I get from these boxes are going to find their way to the bikes I'm currently assembling. Depending on the rules/points, some grav pistols might be retrofitted to some existing models.

I think "pretty solid rumors" is a hell of an understatement. We've had the video from GW saying new stuff's coming (pre-orders go up in what, 2 days?) and we've seen photos of all the new models.

Not to mention that the products being affected by the new changes were pulled (as evidenced in the OP: the 10man tac box is gone, both the vanguard and sternguard finecast boxes are gone).

Since the book seems to be focusing on some primary chapters I am curious if there will be a Pedro Kantor equivilent in the new book. If so I also wonder if his special ability to make sternguard troops will follow the current precedent of only working if he is an HQ in a primary detachement or not. Never can tell with Space Marines following the pattern, so still wondering. I think the best fun I had in my last generic Imperial Fists army I did was converting all of the different veteran and sternguard metal kits in different ways to make up all of my sternguard. Was considering doing it again if I could use them as allies to my Dark Angels or Space Wolves forces. Though if they are not possible to be troops in an allied attachment there is no point...

Unfortunately, Kantor does not make sternguard troops, they are only scoring.

Right now most of the rule leaks are from a single point. And while they are solid, they may be misreading or omitting things. I'm not rage-quitting or selling off my collection or anything, but I'm retaining a healthy dose of salt until I have the book in my hand. For a lot of things, the points can make or break something. Everything needs to be looked at together, not just one rumor at a time. I suspect that no much is changing for me, but need the book in hand first. Particularly since a lot of the information we received was not the whole story at first, and was doled out bit by bit.

We know what boxes are coming out, but not necessarily what's on all the sprues. That kind of information can make or break my plans to purchase. Once we get solid pictures or reports, things might change.

Imagine if they'd just decided not to sell space marines anymore. Lol.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new stuff and rules.
It's not like we don't know everything already model wise.
Rules might be off.
Still time will tell.

I'm so glad we had this thread. Nobody had any idea that the new Codex was available for pre-order in two days and officially releasing on the 7th for like three weeks now.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Why?

There's nothing "invalidating" the current tacticals. Addition of grav rifle is the only change.

I actually was paying attention to the rumor thread, and I'm liking what I saw there. I was just reporting that the old products are now gone.

I had a lengthy response to this, but that wouldn't do this nonsense justice. I can only say that I will definitely be buying these new tac boxes and NOT selling my DV tacticals nor generic tacticals.

The squads of five are what combat squads are for, remember those boxes?

I once bought a combat squad box just because the Space Marine Battleforce came with one, and it was a bit awkward to have a random 5-man squad with no special or heavy weapon instead of a full ten.
