Fluff One hundred and seventy-five years into the future - Humanity has managed to survive despite itself, but for how much longer?
The old nations have grouped themselves into great international federations and have allotted between themselves the star systems that have been shown to be adequate for human life. These new powers, much more powerful than the old ones, continue to be moved by the age-old driving forces of human history: the quest for living space, resources and power. They all want the same and that makes peaceful co-existence difficult. Confrontation and conflict are the constant norm, whether they be open or concealed, of high or low-intensity, of long or short duration… the profession of soldier in this epoch is far from dull…

Thanks mate. Needs a lot of work which I promise I'll get round to eventually. In the mean time anyone should feel free to make suggestions as to what should be available here.

I was suggesting that maybe you can use the videos that Beasts of War did on the fluff of all the factions and the world of Infinity? I feel like they present the lore in a much better way than the Corvus Belli's one they have on their channel in my opinion.

Hi all, I’ve been reading up a fair bit on Infinity, attracted by the superb models and terrain, low model count and, from what I’ve read, fairly great rules, I just have a few general questions –
1 – regards the rulebooks, I understand the current 3 are all required to play, no problem here as I love rulebooks, but I was wondering if any are now getting on a bit, or rumoured to be replaced any time soon? Also is any fourth or beyond book rumoured or anticipated?
2 – regards the forces, are their rules / points / selection criteria all covered in the books (as in a GW codex / army book), so you can choose an army without software? I know there is some excellent free software for building Infinity forces, but I prefer the old-school pen and paper approach.
2 – regards new models, do they come with their own rules, or are they always for units with rules already in the rulebooks?
Basically I would like to get the 3 rulebooks and then spend a happy few months learning the rules with proxies whilst poring through the various army lists and trying to come up with forces I think I would enjoy playing (and at least do the slightest justice to regards painting), then get a couple of test models and eventually splurge on forces and scenery. Just hoping the rules are not expecting an imminent update of any sort. Apologies if any of the above is bleeding obvious, thanks for any replies
1. While there's a new book coming probably late this year or next year, it's not a rewrite of the rules, but another expansion. You're safe buying the books. That said, the rules are pretty scattered across the books, so your best off downloading them (they're free on the Infinity website) and printing them off and organising in a binder how you prefer. This goes for army lists and troop profiles too.
2. The profiles and army lists are free PDFs on the website as well as in the books and on the official army list builder. Any new units not in the books are released as PDFs and on the official list builder before going in the next book (like the Anaconda squadron at the moment).
Buying the three books and learning from them is perfectly fine, but you might run into some issues caused by translation going wonky. It's best to keep Infinity wiki handy for these issues.
Brilliant, sounds like the books aren't then completely required if the rules and lists are free online, but I'll get them anyway for the fluff and immersion factor, and go from there as you suggest, thanks very much Loki
Yes what Loki said really. I think most people start with the free rules, army lists/army builder - the game is balanced enough that, with a few exceptions ("I want an army with 5 TAGs") you will probably be safe just going for the miniatures that you like the look of, and obviously especially in the case of a starter set - then go from there.
Once you have started to get into it, the main rulebook would probably be a good purchase if you want to read more detail about the background and immerse yourself in the setting. As far as I know there are no plans to replace it - pretty much everyone uses the 'living rulebook' of the wiki and FAQs for the rules anyway, so it's not like it's vital from a rules perspective.
