Hey Dakkanauts. I am starting up Alpha Legion and when making my list I noticed quite a few units in the CSM book have the daemon special rule or the model is seething with corruption (It is chaos afterall). To my knowledge the Alpha Legion still sport a very pure gene seed and spend very little time in the eye of terror. So my question is this. How do you suggest I make a nearly corruption free Alpha Legion army using the CSM book while still using competitive units (I.E. Heldrake, Oblits.. etc..) I was thinking about maybe if I use the actual models I could paint them as other legions to show that the Alpha Legion is just working with them as allies.

My counts as Huron Blackheart model.

Your army doesn't have to all be the same color. With CSM armies, this can be justified even easier because different warbands have the tendency to join forces with one another.

There is no reason not to do it they way you want. Look at Dark Angels for instance; you can field a DA army and have minis painted green, black, and bone.

For alot of the Daemon rules you could use "shield generators" and mechanicus things for it will not die.

I also wouldn't put it past them to use allied daemon engines.

Easiest option? Use Loyalist models. I'd bet that certain other models could be used as stand-ins for the Heldrake and Oblist, as well. Maybe a modified Nephilim or something for the Heldrake and while I hate to say it, Centurions pretty much are a loyalist version of the Oblits.

I was already planning on using the Centurions for Oblits (Despite the price tag.. ouch) I ran into a blockade as far as Heldrakes and Forgefiends go though.

And I don't mind Chaos armor, I am using Raptors in my army and as you can already tell by my conversion up there.

Helldrakes seems abit unsubtle for Alpha Legion, but I could see them manipulating another legion with abit more resources for their own ends. Perhaps you could have some Iron Warriors, since they fit well with obliterators and heldrakes, and only having a few key figures painted like the Alpha Legion. The regular CSM could be painted like Iron Warriors, only a few of them have the Alpha Legion mark on them. Althought it would probably look like a Iron Warriors army more than a Alpha Legion one, unless you look at the detailes....which would fit the Alpha Legion fluff =)

For helldrakes, what about using one of the Forgeworld chaos fighters as a counts-as? Might be able to find one on ebay for cheap?

Instead of a forgefiend, what about a modified dreadnought or dreadknight? I recall an excellent space wolf dread conversion done as a wolf. You could do something similar perhaps?

Indeed id look to using units from the loyalists and add/modify them to the alpha legions look if you want a pure alpha legion.

As I too have been looking at a more pure CSM army. (Thousand sons - Want no demons and all to be more egyptian/re-animated look). Ive been looking at necrons? to get some more mechanical styled creatures. Perhaps a wraith with mechanical wings for a helldrake? Or one of the spyder walkers to count as a mechanical forgefiend?

The rules for the Raven Guard are perfect to represent an uncorrupted Alpha Legion army, or even corrupted as they arent known for consorting with daemons or possessing Daemon engines anyway.

Being able to scout and outflank with power armor marines represents the multi-pronged and stealthy style of the Alpha Legion lerfectly. With the release of the newest FW Apoc book with all its 40k legal Heresy era stuff, it more than makes up for all the modern gear like Centurions, Storm Ravens/Talons and razorbacks that modern marines get. No storm raven, but hey you get a Storm Eagle which can be turned into a gunship and carries 20 guys. No modern land raiders, but screw it, get a Spartan.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Hey, I'm starting an Alpha Legion force as well, and I plan to play a Heldrake but with more of a Hell Talon look. I saw a guy make one setting the "wings" front and back so they look more planey than dragonish and replaced the head with a Razorwing cockpit. (Yeah the pricetag is *ouch* but the model looked amazing)

3000+pts- Skaven
1000+pts O&C
1000+pts- CSM (Alpha Legion)

Hm... I love the idea of Raven Wing rules for Alphas. Finally Razorbacks for my Havocs and some more Tanks to choose from.

I had a really cool idea for an Alpha Legion Forgefiend conversion, though I'm not sure it fits what you're after.
Basically , using 3 plasma cannon heads, build a mechanical hydra. You could give it more than 3 hydra heads by tossing the Maulerfiend heads in the mix. You'd want the necks to connect to the top of the torso to emulate the look of a hydra too.

But yeah, like I said, probably not what you're after.

Don't underestimate the capacity of the Alpha Legion. They can have whatever unit they want, and they don't have any standards to prevent them from using daemons and daemon engines. It's true they're mostly in the east, separated from most of their chaotic allies, however this just make it all the more fun to match an army to.

OP, if I were you, I would get the Forge World Alpha Legion Dreadnaught. Field it as a Helbrute or as a Space Marine dreadnaught with modified rules if your opponent's nice.

Aside from that, there's actually a plethora of non-daemonic options for Chaos if you were only to look. Cultists, Terminators, CSM, Bikers, Raptors, Rhinos, Land Raiders, you could use a forgeworld flyer, too. You could go cultist heavy, which would be a great way to accomplish a full force without too many odd units. You could also accomplish this through Imperial Guard allies. That would make things real easy, in fact imo I'd say too easy. Where's the fun in building a unique Alpha Legion force if you're just relying on allies?

I'd even recommend you buy a Land Speeder or Stormraven for them and paint them in the Alpha Legion colors. Use the standard or modified rules for them.

And lastly, if you want daemonic units... Go with a renegade warband. I wouldn't recommend another legion for the simple reason that you don't have the freedom you'd like working with yet another established identity. So if you do include CSM allies, I'd make them a custom renegade chapter.

The Alpha Legion didn't retreat into the Eye of Terror after the Horus Heresy, and therefore most of the Legionnaires have remained free from Chaos' corrupting influence. That being said, some of them have since been involved in the Black Crusades and thus allied with the ruinous powers. So it would be appropriate for them to have either significant or very little levels of Chaos corruption in their ranks. It really all depends on which Alpha Legion you want to play; the ones who have given into Chaos worship or the ones who are still doing their own, mysterious, independent thing.

For Obliterator count-as models, I saw a guy do a specialist heavy weapons team of two marines with heavy weapons on a 40mm base. The two marines made up for the two wounds and he modeled them with heavier armor to justify the 2+/5+.
