The Lord and the Sorcerer go with the Plague marines into the Rhinos and drive forward while the Riptide
with the Commander + drones move around blowing stuff up. What do you guys think? Does it have any room
for improvement, or what would you drop in favour of something else?

it interesting to say the least. but won't the ally chart cause issues with this?

Maybe take IG instead of tau?

Actualy the Tau are Allies of Convinience with the CSM, even if that seems odd.

seeing as the only thing using the marker drones is the Riptide from what i could tell it would be slightly cheaper just to upgrade the fire team to take two marker drones. They already hit on a 2+ with the commander and its one less kill point to give your enemy. that and more bodies for LOS.

Now that you pointed out, I really like the idea of the built you suggested. I got the 6 markerlight for the potential BS 6 to avoid the Gets Hot of the Nove charged Burst Cannon, but it still has its 2+ armour to deal with that. Another thing I was thinking regarding your suggestion is to drop 1 Predator and possibly the Cultists in favour of a Hammerhead with Longstrike.

1. I don't see the point of 12 cultists, they will die and/or flee with a minimal amount of effort. Use the points you save to add some more PM to the units. To be effective they need to be 20+ and fearless.

2. Switch the power sword for a Lightning Claw on your Lord. You already swapped the pistol for a BBoS, so you lose the additional CC attack, which is the only possible reason to prefer a Power Sword over a LC. Otherwise the LC is better due to Shred.

3. I'd drop Gift of Mutation on your HQs. You already have a very low body count, you need to be more cost-effective. It is likely that you won't obtain something that will pay you back of those 10 points for both heroes.

4. Since you are already paying "the ally tax" (FWs), just spend a little bit more points and make it useful. Not an expert with Tau, but I'd max out the number of Fire Warriors so at least you get a troop that is able to offer some resistance on an objective. But 6 fire warriors alone are for sure wasted points. Find a way to give some meaning to that Troop slot.
An alternative could be a unit of Kroots, they can be a good MC hunter unit.

What I hate about Kroot is that their so-good sniper rounds are Heavy, so no good shooting after Outflanking (and Inflitraing them means they die if I don't play first). I think I'll stick to Fire Warriors for now, but I will definetly look into everything else you suggested. Thanks

why can csm not use the marker lights? If the tau and csm are playing as allies won't they be able to gain the same buffs as long as they are not specific to a certain race. a marker light is a weapon that simply shoots and lights up an enemy unit, increasing the ballistic skill of everyone else firing (even their own unit depending on special rules).

Marker light bonuses can only be claimed by Tau units, regardless of allies.
