Hi!

Starting a chaos army and thinking of cultists. The rifle variety is easy to pull off, it's the close combat variety that bothers me.

For autogun riflemen cultists I could get away with using as-is Cadians or Catachans, though I'd do a head swap and add some suitable chaos bits for fluff reasons. These also double as traitor guard, should I want to run those.

The close combat cultists are more problematic. The Cadian and Catachan boxes come with two pistols and two CCW for 10 men, which means I need to look for those bits elsewhere. Maxmini and Kromlech do make some cool weapons like vibro katanas and the like, but these just weapons with no arms attached; pretty sure I couldn't use the Cadian/Catachan arms for these weapons and make it look good. So what do I do?

I'm sure this problem has been solved before, I'd just like to know how you handled it. :-)

Well you could use melee weapon arms from different WH fantasy models. (flagelants for example) And space marine scouts also have arms for melee weapons.

And the more advanced option is to convert your own arms.

I guess the real question would be if you wanted to stick with GW bits or are open to other sources (depending on limitations of where you play)...

You say that I am crazy. I say that you are right!

You could use marauder cc arms. Roughly the same size.

I've kitbashed a mob of cultists using IG bits, Marauder bits, old mutation sprue bits, and just whatever junk I had lying around. There are plenty of extra pistols on the IG command sprues, and if some dudes have two CCWs and no pistol, I doubt anyone will notice.
