.. this stuff for basing FoW minis?
http://www.emodels.co.uk/plastic-kits/tamiya-100ml-diorama-texture-paint-soil-effect-brown-87108-p-22100.html
It's called 'Tamiya Diorama texture paint soil effect', although they do various other colours.
Just checking out my old infantry from 3-4 years ago, and the 'Squadron Green' putty I used looks to have contracted, bending the bases into a U-shape.
So am exploring other options for basing - wondered if anyone has tried this stuff as a somewhat easier option, and what they think of it? Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, to kind of answer my own question, Legoburner did a review a couple of years ago when it was first released (didn't realise it had been around for so long as I've never seen it before)

Will be a guinea pig and buy a pot of it in any case, looks promising and I think potentially a massive time saver! Think this could have arrived from heaven with a little pair of wings on its back for Strelkovy players
Will post here with my conclusions for anyone interested.

I do have some that I used for some 40k bases, and it was quite good for those. It didn't quite make little hills and rises quite the way I wanted it to, so I applied a texture paste I got from a craft store and some rocks first and painted the Tamiya stuff over that. Looks better than sand + PVA.
This post has reminded me that I have this product and it probably would have been way better than green stuff for filling the little gaps between the bases and models on my rural bases.

Don't like it cause of the high cost. I get a bucket of plaster for the same price.

Thanks for the replies guys - seems there are so many ways to base minis, and I had a reply on the FoW forum that the 'base bending' through Squadron putty was due to a chemical in it reacting with the plastic. Although, it has only happened in some cases so who knows?
Have a pot of this stuff on order in any case, will give it a try and report my findings!

Well now I know to keep squadron green away from FoW bases I guess.
I look forward to seeing how your bases turn out.

I had some paint texture left over from a painting project and some sand. Mixed them in a 2:1 ratio, and then added some craftstore, brown acrylic paint until it was the as thick as the GW texture paints. I'm pretty happy with the results and it was MUCH cheaper than the GW pots. The only problem was that the airbrushing paint container shattered about an hour after I made the mix. I'll be using plastic from now on.
