Before I start I'm not sure if this is in the right place....
Anyway I'm starting 40k next year ( now this may seem like a long time away to start thinking about but I need to bag an army in my hobby group or there's a chance it might be taken) problem is I don't know wich army..
TAKEN
Space marines
Orks
Dark angels
So what army should I bag?
Thanks
Dakkajet.

Seriously, look at the models and see which ones you think you would enjoy painting the most.

If you have played other table-top games, is there a "style" of play you prefer?

Would you rather hang back and pour shots on an enemy? Do you want to get in close? Do you want to overwhelm with numbers?

Know that also helps narrow your choices down a bunch.

Similar to the comments of the other people here, try to see which army suits your style. Games workshop did a fairly decent job in that most of the armies play fairly differently - and some extremely so.

Look at the models, see which you think are cool, or the fluff that you like - considering the amount of time (and money) you will invest, this will pay off in the long run.

You should bag Imperial Guard just to be different plus they have some pretty cool models.

Tyranids will be the new hotness not long from now... and they are incredibly fun to paint!

Failing that, IG look fun.

If the only criteria is that it's not one of the armies your friends has, then that doesn't narrow it down very much.

More input would would be helpful.

Heed the whispers of the Dark Gods...

Chaos Space Marines are good fun, but what you choose really does depend on both liking the army/models, and liking the playstyle.

Tyranids will be good again soon from what we hear in rumor land.

Other than that, Tau and CSM are fun.

Once Again, My stock response for all threads like this:

Do your research, Read the fluff and look at the armies. Find the army that you can form a connection with, doesn't matter if its considered competitive or not. Because if you don't you won't be happy with the army and spend away more money on an already expensive hobby by army swapping.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

First off, I say don't pick anything Imperium, you already have 2 people playing that, I'd say 'Nids or Chaos, I have loads of fun painting them and they are really fun to play on the table (once you find a way to get around their challenges) But really it's up to what you like the most (playstyle, asthetics, fluff, etc. are all important)

That would be traitor guard and chaos was already picked. Also, he picked his army so this thread might as well be locked.
