As you may well know BT got absorbed into C:SM, this has brought about changes both good and bad, but the biggest thing I have found is I don't know what makes an effective list now

So I ask the Codex adherent players of Dakka;

How should I change my BT lists and what should I add in?

How should I make best use of the BT chapter tactic?

Would It be worth Allying in another chapter (I have some IF successors already)

I think most Templars are struggling to figure out how to cope with sudden changes while keeping to the theme of our army.

Right now, from what I am seeing it SEEMS as though the Black Tide is going to make a resurgence. Just spamming Crusader squads at full size.

If you got IF successors, take them for your anti tank and flyer...leave the troop blobs to the BT, and keep the melee to the BT.

After thinking some more about it, I am thinking of putting bike command squad to use.

A Captain with the bike command squad and a teleport beacon thing. Rush him into CC and port in the termies for heavy infantry support up close. OR have a land raider with them (or another CM and honor guard) follow the bikes and rush in behind them. Put all the cheap storm shields on the command bikes and FORCE the enemy to try to kill this mini-deathstar...if they ignore it they got some REALLY beatstick marines and a SC inbound. This will protect your troops.

Use bike troop squads for mid and backfield scoring troops...keep to traditional 5 man las/plas crusader squads for homefield scorers.

IMO

Max crusader squads, your special characters have good abilities and still the EC is badass.

Use a squad of bikers (or scoring bikes) to screen and make use of the TFC/Stormtalons etc to help clear the skies and in cover heretics.

Yeah, the BT codex is pretty much just good for fluff and art now.

Just keep doing what you were doing, but now with new toys.

The old BT codex was still very good, though it lacked AA.

I guess I'm not seeing it...how is the EC badass? He's almost a buck fifty, has 2 base attacks and is S4 (before 'stances'). If he were 100...yeah, awesome. As is, he feels like a waste. Can someone tell me why he's awesome?

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

He has a ap 2 weapon, 2+/4++ save and can re-roll hit and wound in challenges. Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't he have 3 attacks since he also has a bolt pistol giving him a bonus attack. Also has a chance to cause instant death in challenge which with all those re-rolls is quite possible. I think the only drawback is that he only has 2 wounds. Seems fairly priced for his stat line and the gear he brings.

This is very un-BT, but is food for thought. BT crusade squads can take one special weapon and one heavy weapon in a squad of 5 for not to many points. 6 squads each with an ML and a flamer in rhinos is 750 points... Chew on that.

Oh god...and they could both fire from the ports...Keep them in the rhinos until they need to get out and score. The rhinos WOULD go pop throughout the game, but a S4/AP- hit is cake for a SM unit to eat up. I may do this...and with a ML(flakk) + Melta.

The old codex got AA when DFtS hit

The fluffy way to run BT is a few Crusader Squads (I take 2 squads of 10 initiates and 5 neophytes with 2 power fists) Give a chaplain to one of them, the EC to another, bring some Sternguard as your "Sword Bretheren" in drop pods or with Jump Packs. Back it all up with a Stormraven, Stormtalon (I use one of each, the Raven carries some assault termies), Dreadnought, and/or a LRC.

To be competitive, MSU LC / Melta spam in Rhinos with a Stormtalon, Thunderfire Cannon, and a Chaptermaster on a bike(kitted out), probably with a small Bike squad taking double Grav guns. Depending on points TML Speeders or Tripple LC Predators, ADL with Icarus LC can also be a great addition if you want to cut back on Rhinos.

I LOVE the Black Templars, even though we just lost a lot of dedicated fluff. We got better, no doubt. We're good even. GOOD.

Bounding Black Templar Assault Marine

Quincy, IL Hit me up if you are around and want to play

5 mans in rhinos with heavy weapon and plasma as well as one or two blobs is key. After that I'd be happy you have new toys. Think about a whirlwind or two as well as a thunder fire cannon. As sad as it sounds bt are one of the better shoot army's now due to crusaders. If you take allies use tiguris for a 20 man bolster unit to reroll all shots
