Hey everyone, just finished a test model for some new marines I'm going to be doing. Just wanted to find out what everyone else thought about the theme.

I'm calling them the Emperor's Pride chapter for know, not sure which successor they will be yet, either Dark Angels, Ultras, Raven Guard, or Black Templars. (the backpack is magnetized in case I want to make him an assault/vanguard later)

Let me know what you think!

I think you're off to an excellent start, but I really think you need a color for the helmet piping to make the whole helmet "pop" and not look so monotone green, and maybe paint the mouth vent as well. Color scheme really works well.

Scheme looks good. The eyes are a little too glowey, but that's mostly personal preference.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Thanks for the tips guys. Good call on the piping, I thought about it briefly but couldn't decide what color to do. Do you think something brighter or darker than the overall brightness of the helmet would be better?

For the eyes, at first I went with a bit less glow, but it didn't show up much at all once I was more than a couple feet away from the model. So I went heavier and I think its an overall better effect, but not without its drawbacks.

Looks good. The eye glow needs a little work. You need to line the eye with mabye a deep orange or even black ink. Right now, it kind of looks like you used too big a brush to paint the eyes. There isn't any definition to where the lens ends and the glow begins.

I like it. The yellow looks great. Love the shoulder pads. They have a very old school\old architecture look to them that I like very much.

Let see some other models in that color scheme

That's a really awesome scheme. I think this would make a nice Ultra successor. As far as the tubing, I would make it black or a dark metallic. You could possibly even go with a darker green shade for it. Also, I assume it was no coincidence that they have lion-themed ornaments and have Pride in the name? Anyway, good work so far, hope you keep us updated.

Did you try red or orange eyes before settling on the yellow glow? I think it works on its own, but it just doesn't look quite right to me with the rest of the yellow on the model.

I mean the base is awesome, the sword is really spiffy, the bolt pistol too. And the subtle weathering down on the feet is great. I just feel the glowy yellow eyes clash a bit with the yellow on the chest eagle and shoulder pads. It holds the model down to great when I think some subtle tweak could make it awesome.

Very original color scheme/design, I'd love to hear more about this chapter's history.

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it.

@Grimdork, When I was working through color combos on some 'scrap' models, I did try red eyes. It just didn't seem right for the feel I want the army to have. The first thing that struck me with the red on green, was 'Christmas' (and I know I'd be hearing that over and over once these guys hit the tabletop).
Orange might work though, haven't tried that yet. I'm getting my next mini prepped, and I'll start on working on it soon (I have a half done Raging Heroes mini I really should finish first). Likely won't be done for a bit though (have some block finals coming up). I might just have to try out orange for the next one and see how I like it.

I'm glad you like the weapons, to be honest I wasn't quite sure what to do with them at first. I like the NMM look on swords, but didn't want it to have to be a power weapon so just stuck with greys. I'm happy with how they came out.

@Willnaut, ya the lion theme and Pride go together, but I like that you wouldn't know it if you hadn't seen the models. IIRC the 'Emperor's Pride' is part of the motto or a saying of the Celestial Lions chapter, but their colors are a bit too obnoxious for me (it's no wonder they all got picked off by snipers). I think a dark grey/metallic effect for the tubing is a good idea. I'm staying away from metallic paints, just to try to force me to get better with NMM.

@ixlar, maybe lining with a dark orange will fix it, might have to try that on Saturday.

@Dinamarth, haven't really come up with a history yet. Mainly just decided I wanted to start a Lion themed SM chapter, then started working on a name and color scheme. Dark Angels have plenty of Lion influence available (Lion 'El etc), and the Celestial Lions have their whole tragic story. I'm working on a couple threads on where to go with them, but haven't picked a favorite yet.

I'd go darker, and either go with a dark blue (complimentary) a deep red for a sharp contrast or a silver for neutrality and to make sense for the reflection of the eye glow. Try it on some "test" helmets to see what you like best.

Nice job overall, not a fan of the eyes. No one in their right mind would have bright lights inside their helms to blind them. Yellow in general blends in too well with the rest of the model. I would go with dark red, blue, or black.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Thats in utterly simplistic and brilliant way to handle it. I'll lay down some simple green basecoating on some spare helmets (with dark piping) and try out a couple different glow effects. I'll post pics in a couple days.

Sounds like a good idea. I have a feeling orange is going to be the money, but don't be afraid to try a bit of everything, could be purple works out

I had a 2000pt Empire army that was red and green. It was snot green and red gore. Nobody bothered me about christmas

I really like this color scheme. The pale green is immediately apparent as unusual, but in a positive way.

It's a decent look for a custom army. Press on and let us see the finished army.

Alright, did some different colored eye/glow real quick, let me know if one pops out.

*disclaimer* it was a real quick sample, so I kept it as simple as possible etc, etc. Its also only a cell phone pic, the wife is out for the day with the Nikon.

Orange

If I were to go with orange I'd probably brighten it up quite a bit.

Purple

I could also try a light blue, or even just white.

Hmm. How about glossy black with a tiny white dot? Just for fun

I like both of those better. Not sure which I prefer... but either trumps yellow to my eyes just for the extra color!

I say keep your yellow but just outline it like you did with the purple and orange.

I did some adjusting on the eyes to make them more distinct from the glow, just to see what it would look like

Did you put a varnish on this particular model? It looks like it has that weird varnish fog when it is applied in too humid a location.

I think the actual eyes stand out a lot better now. If you like the yellow color for them and don't want to change then I would say this will work. It really depends on the overall quality you want, though.

Ok my feeling is this is very good but very very green. You have a darker element here, the metallic and dark grey on the sword and bolt pistol...so you have something here to work with.

Consider taking the covering and the orb parts of the power pack and making them the grey/metal and same with the knee pads. It would break up the green and wont clash with the rest I think.
