I've spend a couple of days troiling the internet and have found that tutorials for painting white plague marines to be lacking. So, I'm turning to the community to see if all of you have any suggestions of how I would go about painting white plague marines. I plan on doing zenith painting on them, so my plan for now is to prime the models in Vallejo Grey Surface primer. The shadows would be Badger's Minitaire Dead Flesh, the highlight would be done using Badger's Minitarie Skull White. It's the mid-tone the I'm stuck on. I don't know if GW Rotten Flesh would work or if I would use something else. My goal is to not have a true, pure white look. I hope to have a subtle shade of green through out the paint scheme. Once it's done, I would do an oil was of Brown and maybe Olive Green. Again, suggestions and help would be appreciated.

Perhaps a chaos black undercoat, skull white coat, then do the rest of the detailing in rustic colours, and then coating in a black wash? Thats how i did mine anyways, but replace skull white with..i think it was kommando khaki..

A black wash will be to stark.. I would m ake a custom wash using paynes grey color.. Its dark grey paint with a blue tint to it.. It lends its self to a natural looking shadow.. But to make white reallys hine you need to take it from a dark grey to white instead of going in reverse..

I would start with a green base and slowly work up to white, makes it look a little "moldy-er"

I've picked up P3's Jack Bone. I haven't had a chance to shoot it out my airbrush to see what it looks like.

Minitarie's Dead Flesh is a soft tan with a green ting to it, which is what I was thinking of using as my base. Of course, I think P3's Jack Bone might be a similar color.

My primer will probably be grey or German Grey.

I'm wondering was/is the GW's Rotting Flesh more of a white color with a green ting too it?

I actually used rotting flesh to paint some of mine, turned out pretty good IMHO (but I had since sold them then deleted the pics :( )

The Zenithal paint job was: Krylon Fusion Camouflage spray paint green from an upward angle, Walmart brand Matte Gray primer from a ~60 degree angle, then Walmart Matte White primer from ~30 degrees from the top. From there, I washed the joints with Devlan Mud (Gryphonne Sepia now?), then blended from Dheneb stone up to white.


IMO if you're going zenithal, you can get away without the grey, with just green and white. What will make them Plaguey, is lots of fake blood (use Tamiya clear red), open sores, and good sponge chipping.

it's the P3 Thrall Flesh you'll be after...
it is basically Rotting Flesh...
very nice green tone to it...
i use it for Death Guard, myself...

also, Cryx Bane Base, and Highlight, both have a nice green/grey tone...
they are both a bit dark, but make nice shadows for this scheme...

Thanks guys for the tips. Once I get done with some of my Dark Angels and collect a few more colors, I'll get a test model done and posted.

Good kitbash. I don't know if it's the picture, but he almost has a Space Wolves color going on. Anyway, sponge chipping will certainly be used along with some rust techniques for the weapons.
