DakkaDakka,

I've decided to utilized the new "Homegrown" rule in C:SM and want to options to take multiple characters from different Chapters for different games. So my question is; how do you do this? Do you create your own character look and use the stat line and rules of said character? Do they have to resemble said character and war gear? Do opponents typically have a problem with models like this and would they say it is a proxy? Just a few questions as I am curious to how people accomplish this.

I really don't understand what you want to do. Do you want to play once chapter in one game then another chapter in another game but using the same minis? Just tell your opponent what you are doing.

If doing this in the same game, then I am not sure what you mean. I don't think you can use more than 2 different chapters in one army in the same game.

Well what I am getting at is I want to use Vulkan without using his GW model. I want to model my own Forge Father but don't want to seem like I'm trying to proxy the model. Not sure if that makes sense but, I play with people that say 'what you see is what you get' and no getting around it! However, with the new Home Brew rule I was wondering how other players do this. I personally wouldn't say it is a proxy but I know others would say it is.

I thought you were talking about mixing up rules.

I use "counts as" all the time. For most people it is not a problem using one model for another, as long as it is known before the game starts.

When I play and use counts as, I tell my opponent everything what is what, and so far it is not a problem.

That said, some people at least on the internet, don't care if you have a different model, unless it is WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)

When I use to play, we don't even play WYSIWYG, we just say this has this and that, and I keep asking every ten minutes, what does he have again, and it's no problem.

TL;DR

Me and always my group use different models for different units and have no problems with it.

Oh ok cool. So to clarify, when I use Vulkan, I have to use everything that comes with him. I can't give my Vulkan a powerfist and then still use the rest of his rules? Now imagine if you could do just that! That would be awesome as I would totally just utilize him for his Forge Father special rule

You can only give special characters options specifically noted in their army list entry. However, if you are doing you own version you can counts as anything you like. If you don't like the spear, give him a power fist that happens to work in exactly the same way as the spear. Just be clear with your opponent.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
