Member of a Lodge? I Can't Say

My google skills have failed me in my search for answers. Can anyone tell me (or give me a link to) any information on why these two chapters had a strained relationship/rivalry?
Thanks,
Ed

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

The 5th edition Codex covers it in fairly decent detail.

Deathwatch First Founding wrote:
Many Space Marine Chapters have existed for millennia, with those of the First Founding having their roots in the original Legions created to prosecute the conquests of the Emperor’s Great Crusade. With histories stretching back into the dawn of the Age of the Imperium, it is perhaps inevitable that Chapters should come to blows, both metaphorically and at times literally. There are many instances of rivalries, and some of outright hostilities. The deep-rooted and mutual antagonism between the Space Wolves and the Dark Angels is well known, but there are many more examples. One example of such rivalry can be found in the case of the Raven Guard and the White Scars, who have harboured a mutual mistrust dating back centuries. In truth, there may be no single cause of the bad blood between the two Chapters, but the mere mentioning of several battles are sure to raise the ire of Raven Guard and White Scar alike. The Assault on Hive Lin-Mei is one such conflict, as is the Last March on the Sapphire Worlds. Most acrimonious of all is Operation Chronos, in which a venerated Raven Guard Chaplain fell to Enslaver domination in circumstances where a nearby White Scars force might have been able to intervene. The ill will created by these and numerous other incidents has led to the two Chapters regarding one another with barely contained loathing, a situation that none can see an end to any time soon
So that's it from the RG's point of view anyway.

It seems to also extend a bit to the sons of their chapters as well, as in the case of the Raven Guard decendants the Raptors and the White Scars decendants the Mantis Warriors during the Badab War.

I play both these chapters in the game so read a lot of fluff. Although they don't necessarily trust each other, they seem mature enough to ignore it and get on with the job. The best example is in Hunt for Voldorius, Shrike and Kor'sarro work together and even manage to get on reasonably well respecting each others practices.

It's nothing too serious. If anything, it may be the different approaches they take to battle (sneaking around in the dark and ambushing folks vs revving the bejeebus out of your Bikes and hurtling towards the enemy) that cause a bit of friction.
IIRC, in the 5th edition SM codex they end up fighting together against some Daemon Prince who's turned a world to Chaos ( an Alpha Legion chap, I think). Once they kill the DP and win (it is the SM book after all), the two chapters get a little bit less frosty towards one another.

I always heard it as a bit of a grudge because the WS had lots of bikes but little JP, and the Raven Guard vice-versa, but I have a feeling that's fan-made crap.
