I was able to get the infantry banners to cast sucessfully, however I have some concerns as to their durability. The vertical pole that holds the banners is very thin and being resin it's also very fragile.

I am faced with two options make them in resin and let the end user beware or I can have them made in metal so they will be a bit more durable. (but It will also take 2-3 months before I'd have them in stock). I'd like to get a show of hands and see who is interested and what preference you might have resin/metal.

Price would likely be 5 banners for $3 and there would be traditional samurai sashimono banners as well as the sci-fi style hi tech banners.

(their design & details are the same as the mech banners I currently offer, they are just scaled down)

1.) I already bought these from you a while ago, so why do you list them as new?
2.) What is wrong with your other news thread, so that you felt like starting a second one?
3.) Metal.

It's likely you bought the mecha sized ones, these are rescaled for infantry. I had them printed almost a year ago but I couldn't do them in the smaller size due to equipment issues. I recently upgraded my vaccum system and can do smaller stuff now

Old thread has too many dead links and out of date info.

Scale shot of the mech banners and rifles vs the infantry scaled ones.

Thin resin poles are no fun,

so metal (better for your shipping costs too as I suspect you'll loose some in transit if you go for resin)

New thread is totally fine, as long as this one is kept up to date rather than the other . Sometimes threads get too long, I believe maxi mini restarted theirs recently, too. Not a problem at all!

I am torn because resin would've been nice here, but if it's not durable enough...

Metal all the way - best foam in the world is not going to keep those resin poles safe in transport from game to game for long, if only because of metal models they're attached to banging them about.

I would be interested in them in metal. For something like that, it's infinitely more durable.

The infantry banners are quite nice. If I hadn't axed my plans for a Tau force, I'd be buying a few.

Paulson, how do your infantry weapons scale with Infinity figures? Are they dainty enough, or more "heroic scale?"

I did a bit of testing this morning to see how they held up to being knocked over and I also dropped them several times from about 6 inches. On plastic and resin models they seemed to do ok and the models tend to bounce rather than break, the pole is bit more durable than I initially thought. However I wouldn't go so far as to make that abuse as standard handling treatment for them.

Rather than break the banners seem to pop off.Unless you make extra height and space available when storing them I suspect they may have potential to snag in transport foam. I'd rate them comperable in durability to some of the forgeworld guns and swords, they'll work great for display models and hold up if for you treat them well. But if you have butter fingers or handle your minis with ham fists I don't see them doing so well.

(On metal models they won't do so hot, the extra weight of the metal makes for a heavier impac which stresses the pole).

What I think I'll do is make them available initially in resin and also offer metal versions once I can get them in at the caster, that way people can pick which option works best for them.

The infantry weapons are more "heroic scaled", the banners you can fudge the scale on as its ok to have them a bit oversized, infinity guns are much smaller as they are more along the lines of "true 28mm" proportions.My infantry rilfes would probably be really massive on a standard infinity troop. I've used them on a few battletech models but btech tends to be around 45-50mm in height.

I have been waiting for these !!!

I would mag the small flags anyway, so they would just pop off and not break, and for easier storage.

how about;

1 - put a small magnet space in the bottom?
OR
Make a version where the end user can supply their own pole.
(1/8 plastic rod, or heck, tooth pick, etc.). Make the top with a circular depression where they can insert the rod, that way they can make the length of it as long as they wanted to.

I could see folks using a small brass rod, or plastic rod in there.

Thank you for supporting the community, I love our stuff.

Havent done it wath back banners like these, but on other standards, weapon barrels, swords and some fiddly arms/legs/tentacles I will place a small bit of copper wire in the mold before I cast with resin. You need to modify the mold slightly in order to create a small channel for holding the wire and the guage has to be small enough to not prevent the resin from flowing...

The end result is much stronger than resin alone and I havent had one of those break. When I actually plan it out well enough, the bare end of the wire then becomes a pin to use for attaching to a miniature or other model. I use copper in order to avoid problems cutting it if need be. Copper is soft enough to cut with a knife blade or sprue cutter without damaging the blade and still strong enough to give the needed support. Also has reduced warping a lot on those items.

I belive Black Scorpion is doing it on a production level as well, they might be able to give pointers on how to streamline it. My method works well enough, but I dont think it is really suited for production work.

Resin versions of the infantry scaled banners are now available

I do recommend only using them on plastic or resin models. The weight of metal models could damage the banner if the model falls or is handled roughly. If you treat your minis with care it shouldn't be an issue, but just giving a heads up as there is a segment of gamers who treat their stuff with ham fists and throw them in shoe boxes etc.

For those of you who want a removeable banner it'd probably work best to add a pair of small pins. The mounting spot is pretty small and unless you are use ultra tiny 1mm magents there's not much room. Pinning them will hold it in place just fine and you can remove it for storage which may be helpful as they significantly increase the models overall height and depth needed in a case.

Where did your amazing shield go? The large standard looking one with the large black face and rivets around the trim? I'm just about to run out of the 20 I previously ordered and wanted to throw in for more and now they aren't there. Sad me

I took several of the slow moving items down about 6 months ago, the molds were shot and I didn't see a need to replace them at the time. I'll need to see if I can find the master for the tower shield so I can make a new mold for them.

I'll put some up in my gallery when I get home. The tower shield was awesome for a Storm Shield count-as. Especially for models like Iron Warrior or Iron Hands as it's got that heavy mechanical feel to it.

@Paulson

Thanks. Sounds great. If you could get the mold up and running again I'd easily be down for another 20 easily. Might even order more just in case

I'm now interested in these shields as well.

They sound like they'd work well for Cataphractii terminators too...

Me 3 and I'll be placing an order anyway that I don't necessarily need to receive quickly, so I might consider adding some if they looked better than the GW storm shields. I always thought those were too... I don't know, simplistic for what they supposedly do in-game.

@Alph

I use them for my Cataphractii Terminators actually. I like them for it.

@RiTides

These are still pretty simple design wise. It's just a simpleness that works well in my opinion.

Yeah, I was searching for a word and simplistic wasn't really it... a templar cross with a huge skull on it is cliched and over-done, is what I really meant.

Seems like odd timing that interest perks up well after they'd been removed and I'd just gotten rid of my pics. Had to google to see if I could find my own stuff lol

I'll need to retake pics and within the next couple days I should be able to list both shields and my infantry hammers up again.

Here's pics of the two shields I have, a tower shield and a round shield. They are slightly on the large size for infantry but that's ok IMO as tower shields should be large hence the name "tower". They also work really well on slightly larger 40mm based models.

Also found some dakka gallery stuff which give an idea of size: (pics aren't mine and belong to wolfs16)

Well I still had like 4 left. But I was going to take advantage of your sale to pick up more. I'm not huge into Mecha stuff so I honestly don't visit the site often. The Tower shield is my personal favorite and great on Cataphractii Terminators.

Those shields are awesome simply because they don't look tiny in comparison to the rest of the model
