A small town at the foothills of the beautiful Cascade Mountains

Has anyone used different colored meadow flower tufts to differentiate units?

I see that The Army Painter sells yellow/white flowers. Does anyone know of any sources for different colors?

I need red, yellow, and white.

Thanks!

Mez

I use different colored shrubs for my American Rifle platoons.

No, but that is actually a great idea.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

That's a great idea!

I've usually just used little sticky labels on the bases to differentiate, although being armoured rifles there aren't that many to do. Could see something like Strelkovy being a bit of a nightmare..

I've done something similar to this, only I didn't use flower tufts as most of my guys are desert based.

I'll give each platoon something the other platoon does have on their bases. For example, one platoon will be sand and rocks, one platoon will be sand and scrub brush, one platoon will be sand and rocks and scrub brush. After awhile you get used to it and can identify platoons very quickly in a way that looks more organic than labeling the bases.

I meant to say label the bases underneath, although of course if you have too many infantry (or they are constantly placed in one mass together) it's not that useful.

I paint "my side" of the bevel of the base a different color. For example my FJ all have a dark grey on three sides and the back may have a brown, green, or tan depending on the unit.

My opponent sees a unified color for my army and I can tell on my side which belongs to which unit without having to pick up bases all the time.

I tend to paint colours + paterns on the back of the base so I can tell what is what.

For basing my Brits and Germans use the same flock (summer grass flock and brown scatter to break up the green)

My yanks use Meadow green and brown.

Not sure what I will do with my russians.. maybe largely grey or black with tufts of green.

Tried using flowers for decoration, certainly looks nice, but I wouldn't want to rely on it for identifying my platoons

For unit identification I use a pip/square on the back of the base.

Typically- 1 white/2 white/3 white for infantry platoons

1/2/3 red for engineers

Green for company support units

Blue for AT

Yellow w/red dot for artillery

Then you can use other colors as needed if you have more than 3 of each units type.
