The Bards Tale is about the only one now a days for me. I had the NES version as a kid, my first introduction to video RPG's. I still haven't beaten the game, much to my chagrin. I should devote some time to actually doing that...

I occasionally get stuck into a game of Sonic The Hedgehog (Master System). It's primitive compared to the 16-bit version but still fun; I got a lot of mileage out of those games back when gaming was less affordable.

Metroid

Castlevania (I and III)

Mega Man

I play more recently released 8bit games like Bleed, TheyBleedPixels, and etc.

Super Mario 3 - I've never got bored of that one.

I also liked the re-boot of Bionic Commando (the nes version not the newer one) thats on the ps3 network.

It got 2 player mode added.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

There's a pizza place near me that still has the original super Mario arcade game in their restaurant. I play it now and then and remember when it first came out.

If those count then I played a bit of Fez and waaaaay too much Rogue Legacy. I think Hotline Miami was my favourite game of 2012.

A bit older games? Then without a doubt first place goes to Master of Magic . I also played some adventure games like Grim Fandango ( keeps crashing :( ) and Gabriel Knight.
Plus I've found a very, very old game called MAGUS. I was searching for this one for like 10 years or more.

I haven't done this this year (yet) but I often do a FF6 or Chrono Trigger marathon.

Hotline Miami was decent. I also liked Rogue Legacy as well, but I don't think that's 8bit per se.

Aren't those 16 bit games?

Chrono Trigger definitely was. Not sure about the older FF games.

I gave away all my NES games several years ago, but recently bought a top loader and started collecting again. A few of my favorite non-Mario games are Kirby's Adventure, Blades of Steel, Sky Kid, and RC Pro Am...to name a few.

I'm not sure if I'll ever get into Master System collecting, but I may eventually get into TurboGrafx-16 collecting (which straddles the line between 8 and 16 bit)....mostly for the CD games like Lords of Thunder.

I had found a port of Jackal a bit ago. Can't find the file now, but I always loved the game.

Jeep based combat? Awesome.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Ive actually been playing SNES/Genesis games like mad lately, the ones that are good are just SO good.

But to stay on topic, I started Castlevania again on the NES. Its so good, but good gravy can it get tough

Flying Medusa heads perchance, or just tough in general?

The original (and well, upto the SNES versions anyways) was pretty tough just on its own. Feels like the first few sections are just to get your reactions dialed in then it turns the safety off and its a shotgun in the face

Pokémon Gold. Played to the first ending over two coach journeys on a Gameboy Color, then just sat, headphones in, and listened to the credits music. End time: 7:37.

Kirby's Adventure on 3DS virtual console still gets a lot of play, as does Pokémon Red. Silver will be replayed when the battery has been replaced.

Now and then I like to fire up the emulator and play some of my old Apple ][ favorites. Right now, I'm playing Wings of Fury.

I had that for the Amiga, good times.

Sometimes I load up MAME to play Defender.

I occasionally try to hunt down a downloadable version of Ultima IV.

I've always wanted to complete that game, but never quite figured out how to beat half the enemies in it. - Usually it revolved around jumping on a boat and running away.

Among other options, GoG.com has Ultima IV as a freebie. A great, timeless game.

One key to defeating monsters is missile weapons. It's amazing what you can do with a party armed only with slings!

I still play the old Pokemon games on Gameboy, Tetris, Golf (NES), LoZ, Sonic, and Dr. Mario pretty frequently.
