So my sister just bought me some Perry War of the Roses plastics for my birthday (one box of mounted man-at-arms and another of mercenaries) and even though I'm a history buff I don't want to use them for actual historicals since I don't like much of the battles that happened during the late medieval period. However, I thought about it and they will make perfect stand-ins for a fictional army, say HOUSE LANNISTER. I was thinking of making a Lannister army, and maybe a House Reyne in the future to depict the Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion (and give me a reason to sing Rains of Castamere while pushing plastic men).

My problem is with making banners and flags. I haven't seen any decent tutorials with my google-fu, and some of the flags I've seen look too stiff and unrealistic. So does anyone know a method or a link to a good tutorial on how to make flags and banners? Preferably ones that'll look like it's flowing in the wind and not just a piece of flat cardboard vaguely bent.

Also does anyone know what kind of bases do Perry plastics come with? I still haven't received the boxes yet so I haven't inspected the contents. Because if they don't come with individual 28mm square bases, I'll be very sad.

2000pts IG. ( based on fallout US Army)

3000pts XIIth Legiones Astartes 8th Assault Company. (Pre heresy)

never in the field of human conflict, has so much been fired at so many, by so few.

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions. Loyal servant to the true emperor Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

Well fromthewarp has these tutorials for creating GS banners. There are a few flowing flags in there as well.
If you combine the flag technique with the GS banner maybe you can archive what you want.

Hope this helps

Yeah I've seen those! I was just wondering if they're gonna work on something much, much bigger. I'd be making banners waaaay bigger than those.

There are two reasons why I didn't do the Starks:

1) The colors are somber (grey on white). They won't be as visually eye-catching.

2) I picture the Northmen as a less fancy lot, and the Perry Miniatures are somewhat fancier, more Southern Westorosi than North. If there are good miniatures that could represent the North, I'd be glad to make a Northern army... maybe the Boltons or the Karstarks.
