I don't see any clarification on this:
Can a SM bike Captain use two melee weapons in order to get the +1 attack bonus? He gets both a bolt pistol and chainsword as standard, but can he wield them both while on the bike?

IIRC yes he can rules wise but good old gw forget he would still need a hand to controll the bike

Yes because they 'get off' the bike to fight close combat (at least in the fluff) and there is nothing in the Bike rules that prevents it.

As long as the Captain has access to two melee weapons (or a pistol and a weapon etc) he can get the +1.

My buddy has a Wolf Lord modelled on bike with a Power Fist and a Wolf Claw!

Technically, as per the rules, you only USE one melee weapon in combat.

You gain the bonus for having a 2nd melee weapon but you must choose which one the model is actually using each turn.

Remember : This is a game and reality has no place here.

Show me where in the rules being on a bike prevents you from using two melee weapons (here's a hint, you can't because its not there)

Show me were in the rules being on foot allows you to use both the melee weapons you carry and not just one? (here's a hint, you can't because its not there)

Being on a bike has nothing to do with it. You can only ever use one melee weapon profile in combat. You may gain additional attacks like Rorschach9 and Th0rh4mm3r said but you only ever swing with the one weapon.

I'm calling abstraction here again. The assault phase covers the whole process of charging and close range shooting as well as actual physical blows. The dice you roll represent the likelihood of causing damage during an assault, not that you get 1 punch per dice rolled. This abstraction easily covers taking only one hand off the bike controls to make some pistol shots before switching to melee weapons and staying on the bike, or a rider dismounting before laying in with both hands.

This sounds hilarious. I've not seen the fluff you mention, so I've always thought of it as being bike-based combat, kind of like a combination of ramming into stuff (Hammer of Wrath) and jousting, or taking run-by swipes like you would from horseback.

I'd love to see the Marine that lost his bike because he got off to attack some Orks and an enterprising Loota grabbed it and rode away

Thats fine when riding on smooth tarmac with no-one shooting at you or actively trying to cause grevious bodily harm, of the kind that is likely to occur if one of the handlebars gets clipped or pushed off-line

IIRC bikers of some armies were denied the bonus attack for two CCWs back in 3rd? edition - oldtimers (or people listening to them) still have a flashback to it once in a while.

But that was back before GW started printing those Unit Type and USR sections in their rulebooks. Everyone's bikes, furious charge and what-have-you was listed in their codex and might be different from what the next army got if GW misplaced a sentence or wanted to give an army something special.

Truth to be told, SM bikes have "truck-like" tires... a bit more stable than nowadays bikes' ones.
