Good. In Northern Ireland driving while using a cell phone could result in a fine, points on your license, and possible jail time. In Indiana not so much. The worst driving that I've seen since I moved over here has had the common denominator of cell phone usage

We,Ve had laws in for 2 years I think? And the number of times I've almost been hit by someone driving and looking at their phones has been staggering.

In my heart, this sounds more like "laws you can follow if you want to, really, but it's ok if you don't want to, because we can't enforce it."

You could still be stopped, but it would be called "wreckless driving" or some such, a minor offense thats usually tacked onto other bigger offenses. Now its a class of its own.

I'm hoping that states actually decide to enforce the no texting and driving laws - but it's sad when I see police officers themselves participating in this dangerous behavior.

The movement to change this behavior will be slow. As related to drinking and driving though, unfortunately, it'll take someone people know to be hurt by it to gain traction and recognize that texting and driving is as dangerous.

Looks like all's still fine here in the state 'uh Missurah.

Of course, coming from Illinois, driving in Missouri always struck me as somewhat of a "best effort" thing anyway. Long as you're not running people over or speeding on a city street, you're fine. Most times this comes out as alternating levels of hilarious and really, really irritating.

It can't wait, sometimes it's super important.

All I'm saying is that we can choose to do much more in our vehicles to be less distracted. Accidents happen - it shouldn't be due to a retweet or facebook update.
