On moon miranda.

Looking through the new SM codex, I noticed some rather stark fluff changes. Some have already been addressed, such as BT's and their relations with Psykers, but another I noticed was with the Iron Hands. Previously they were described as having very few dreads relative to other chapters and revered the few they had very highly, and lacked as much armor as other chapters, but now they've apparently been changed to have gobs and loads of dreadnoughts, anyone else notice this change?

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Maybe they finally realized how idiotic and nonsensical it was for a first founding chapter that had closer ties to the mechanicus than anyone else suffered from a vehicle shortage due to an event that happened ten thousand years ago.

"On the streets of Ishtaan, we lost all our vehicles! Ten thousand years of close relations with the mechanics later despite our ridiculous love of machines, we still haven't replaced them!"

Iron Hands not having very many Dreadnoughts was a relic of the bad old fluff that had been generally ignored by both the rules writers and the playerbase for several editions. I'm happy to see GW is willing to update their background to remove things like that. I say this as an Iron Hands player. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the new Codex and love the way the Iron Hands were treated-- I just can't wait for the supplement/next edition when Stronos becomes a special character!

Agree with the fact that them having few dreads was stupid but I vividly remember the original Iron Hands novel stating that the entire Chapter had 7 dreads so the chances of getting into one were slim to nil and kind of made sense given their levels of mechanization.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.

One of the few fluff changes in the codex that was good, Iron Hands should have vehicles coming out the ears imo.

Like most of the fluff changes, it's one I approve of.

This has been changed since Wrath of Iron. Nice to see it taken up in a codex.

The most mechanically inclined of the first founding chapters having the smallest motor pool ten thousand years after the loss of their initial vehicle fleet was nonsensical in the first place.

On the surface I can see how this might have been the first go. Originally most of the dreadnaughts and some of the vehicles were supposed to have been from the heresy or before and losing most of them would mean it difficult to field many of them (if indeed the mechanicus did not make any more dreads)

Even if the AdMech couldnt make more, the IH love of dreads would mean they would go further to find and recover damaged or destroyed hardware and they would go further to repair and rebuilt the few they had, so they would have more.

but the AdMech can make more dreads, so this isnt a problem at all. Having close relations and loving them would mean they would have more.

I like most of the changes/updates. It makes sense to me that they would have replaced the equipment, just they they would have fewer relics from that period, but more "modern" versions.

I also like how they fixed the small piece of fluff re: Chapter master. They don't have "one" but it was mentioned in conflicting stories (don't remember which) that said person petitioned the Chapter Master. The new fluff explains how the council elects a ad-hoc chapter master in times of need. This explains some old conflicts perfectly.

I am disappointed with the change in Iron Fathers. No longer are they techmarine-Chaplains, now they are just the council members. Don't really care for that change as I was hoping for a SC Iron Father with a supplement maybe.
