So I've been spending the summer figuring out how to make my footslogging Ork list really perform. I built it by buying scads of cheap Boyz on eBay, and making lots of conversions. Playing around with the Primary Detachment/Allies rules has let me whittle down my armies to their basics, and I've found that this setup works really well:

Big Mek: kustom force field; cybork body. 95
Warboss: power klaw; shoota; attack squig; cybork body. 110
Big Mek: kustom force field; cybork body. 95
Big Mek: shokk attack gun. 95

15 Lootas 225

30 Ork Boyz 180
30 Ork Boyz 180
20 Ork Boyz 120
7 Big Boss's Nobz: Painboy; 3× big choppa; 2× power klaw; 5× shoota; 2× shoota/skorcha kombi-weapon; Waaagh! banner; cybork bodies. 295
Trukk: reinforced ram. 40
Big Mek's Deff Dread: skorcha; dreadnought close combat weapon; grot riggers; armour plates. 110

3 Big Gunz: lobba; 3× ammo runts. 84

Painboss: cybork body. 60
Painboss: cybork body. 60

20 Spanna Boyz: shootas. 120
15 Spanna Boyz: shootas; cybork bodies (requires painboss). 135

2,004 points

My opponents really never know what to shoot at first. Cybork and painboy makes the nobz in my trukk really resilient - it always gets wrecked or blown up but I think I lost one nob to that in one game so far. That and my deff dread acts as a good fire magnet rushing upfield. Then when they do start firing on my boyz, only template weapons really have much of an effect (and even that's limited since I really abuse unit coherency spacing). Challenges don't affect my HQ, because the only one that it makes any sense to accept with is my Warboss, who has a tendency to destroy. My Boy mobs benefit from Mek/PB Ld but I always ignore challenges with them because their effect on the mobs re: cover and FNP is the same no matter what they do.

With this setup I lose about half the boys I normally do at lower points games (which still include a KFF and Painboy, so those losses aren't as bad either - I stick the PB in a big 30-blob, where that and most of my other boys get KFF 5+.

I do have a question: for the same points I could take the cybork bodies of the 15-boy Spanna mob and include a Grot mob, or up it to 20 spannas. It would make it tougher to get rid of 20 boys due to fleeing but then again Grots make a good screen to allow them to get into CC easier. I'm leaning towards more boyz=more better.
