I'm big on magnets and having everything all swappy. But I haven't come up with a non-destructive way to get an optionally detachable cyclone missile launcher for terminators. Any suggestions?

you have to put the magnet inside the top of the termie before you put him together. or atleast thats how i do it.

That's because for the optimal fit there isn't a 'non destructive' way to mount magnets - you simply HAVE to make holes to seat the magnets (surface mounts will not provide enough bond strength). With glue on the base and bond support extending to the disc edge, it will prove much harder to accidentally pull the magnet from either the mount or the launcher.
At least one in the terminator and one in the launcher.
I'd personally go with two smaller than one big one (two 2mms as opposed to a 5mm for example). You need the launcher to stay on as you move it, but come off without much force

I simply swapped out the entire torso when I magnetised two of them. Magnets in arms and waist.

One 2mm Magnet (you could also use two, if you don't want the missile launcher spin accidentally) into the terminator, one (or two) into the missile launcher, greenstuff/kit the remaining depth/holes and grinding/polishing it - never see a magnet again.
Nothing special imho, don't see what's the big question here - other than to figure out which terminator then has the magnet on top :p
And do not forget: Once you start magnetizing, you never stop!

I disagree that surface mounts don't provide enough bond strength. I use 0.5mm thick magnets almost exclusively and surface mount the vast majority of them. Most of my Crisis Suits use this method and I haven't had any problems with their magnets coming off, especially after the primer layer is down to assist the glue and to damp impact forces. For something as light as a Cyclone mount a surface mount would work fine.
Embedded magnets will provide a stronger bond, but surface mounting is still a useful application.

Heh...ok, THIS is funny....
I have not found a an easy clean way to pull this off (I have done it) ...
Could some of the people who have done this post up some pics of their methods, or of at least the finished pieces.
That might help all of us in brain storming how to find our own way to attach this thing to that awkwardly curved surface...

Drill the hole into the top of the termi and another into the base of the launcher with just a touch of GS to fill the gaps, lock the magnet in place, and make a smooth transition from magnet to plastic. I used the IG Sentinal missile pods because i think they look much sleeker than that box launcher the Termis come with. I also use the same missile pods for my Speeders, mounted to the top.
Termi with magnet:
Missile pod attached:
Magnetized Banner in place of pod:
Speeder using the same pod:
In the end, your going to have to drill a hole to make it look decent.

If terminators have detachable cyclone launchers (as opposed to being permanently attached), it would make sense for those terminator suits to have some sort of mounting thingy on their 'roof' for the actual launcher to attach to. So why not do the same for the model - add a vaguely techy-looking mount (with a magnet hidden inside) to the top of the termy suit, designed to look ok by itself, and then build a cyclone launcher (with another magnet) to optionally fit on the mount.

This, a thousand times this. I've seen just this set up in action and it works. Sentinel missile pods all the way...
