Good Evening/Morning to you wherever you are in the world.

First post! Going to put up an intro in a second, but wanted to pop this in first.

Long story very short - return 40k'er, did some when I was at school up until about 15 and have now decided I fancy getting back into it. So bought a box of Firewarriors, a small hobby store worth of paint, glue, and tools, and set to work...

Here is the result of Fire Warrior #1:

I have to say, I am really pleased with how it came out considering I haven't touched a paintbrush in over a decade! Spent a lot of time reading/watching tutorials before beginning, and also setting out my colour scheme etc.

Things I'm pleased with:

* The camouflage -I wanted to base the camo on this fantastic image and I think it has come out really well for the first try. On the next model will try and get the stripes a bit thinner and neater, but colours wise I really like it
* The blending on the shoulder pad - Not perfect, but for a first attempt, I'm really pleased with how it came out
* The lens and backpack detail - again, first time ever trying this and am ridiculously pleased with the helmet lenses (as they actually look like lenses!) and really like how his mobile phone signal meter (or whatever it is....) on his backpack came out
* The base - kind of just stuck some glue on and threw some flock at it but it actually looks really good!

Things to work on for next time:

- Highlighting - pretty tricky with the camo and I think it looks ok, but can certainly work on it to make it better. Just practice for this really
- The hooves - don't like them. Used a tutorial for painting Tau to paint them, but next time will be going for something more of a bone or...well, hoof colour!

Would love to hear your comments and critique, so please don't hold back as would love to learn and improve as much as possible.

Cheers!

Well, I for one thing you have done a great job for being away for so long. Keep up the good work.

Looks good! Only thing that really jump out at me is the shoulder pad insignia, the white in the grooves looks a bit thin - maybe another coat before painting the camo over\around?

They look great.

My story is similar. I went from spacewolves to tau. In just about a year I have seen my skills increase quite a bit.

Keep up the practice! Like said before, they look amazing.

Really nice for the first model in so long. You did an excellent job of emulating that art piece as I immediately thought of it when I saw your Fire Warrior.

Very nice. I think you executed the camouflage quite well. and I like the whole scheme. Can't wait to see more of the army and how it looks in groups with suits and vehicles.

The color scheme is amazing, and the lens + shoulderpads are totally great. Got an overall war feeling to it, more then just orangy yellow warriors usually seen

Thank-you all for your responses - most kind.

SBG - totally agree on the shoulder pad (although it doesn't look as bad in 'real life'). The model was basecoated black and so the white bits of the insignia were lined in afterwards rather than the red, camo and black being painted over a white basecoat. I think it's just a brushwork thing to practice being confident that the paint will go where I want it! Certainly something to watch for on the next one though.

I like this figure a lot, definitly a great model especially as you havent painted in years.

You carry the Emperor's will as your torch, with it destroy the shadows.

Really well painted - camouflage is amazing - just thought I might make you aware to the fact that as soon as you add the red armbands to that colour scheme you end up getting something that will immediately remind a lot of people of this :

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.
