Hi everyone ! I will soon be painting some black templars. So, as some of you might know (and for those who dind't knew it), sword brethren, assault squad and apothecary all have red should pad trims. Thing is, I ain't able to find a video, article or tutorial suggesting a color/paint for these red trims anywhere. Because of this, I am in the necessity to turn myself toward the dakkadakka community (not saying it's a bad thing thought , just that normally I try to work things by myself).
So, would anyone have a suggestion ?
Thx for your time and answers.

To paint the red for my Templars I first do Khorne Red for the base then give it a coat of Wazdakka Red(?) to brighten it a little.

I use Mephiston Red as my base.

Wash with corsburg red

High light with blood red.

If you use blood red as the base, you can highlight with a orange color.

Hi, for a nice red with a highlight I like to base with Blood red then wash with agrax earthshade, re apply blood red, then 50/50 blood red-blazing orange, then pure blazing orange, then 50/50 blazing orange-vomit brown, then pure vomit brown then wash with Baal red (or similar)

Seems along the lines I had in mind indeed ! Thx !
So how about :

Base : mix of watered-down mephiston red and khorne red
Shade : carroburg crimson
Layer : waered down Wild Rider Red (is there really someone who doesn't water his paint anymore ?)
Hardlines : Evilz Sun Scarlet (previously Blood red) mixed with Screaming skull (to make them stand lighter than the surface of the trim),

I think you'll be better off mixing in a yellow to lighten the red. If screaming skull is the equivalent of bleached bone, you might be ok, but the whiter you go, the more pink the red will become.

Yellow, light brown, orange can all work especially if you plan on washing them after? white will only really be any good to lighten any of the aforementioned colours or yes, it will be pink! and as stated.....pink is a no no!

I think mixing some red with orange would be a good option. By doing so, I'll obtain a coral color. If I mix red with yellow thought, I'd get a orange color. The first one seems a better idea. At least, as I imgine it.

It depends on the kind of red you want. For the usual military-looking red a bit of orange mixed with the highlights is cool (and if you think it looks too orange, tone it down with a glaze of red wash). But don't let that limit you. you can also experiment adding light flesh tones on the red: this'll give you some sort of pastel-ish red, perfect if you want the highlights to be muted in terms of saturation but stark in terms of contrast with red. Some people also use pink but it depends on the subject matter if it actually works.

Some examples of my work highlighting 9pun intended) what I'm saying:

Spoiler:

Shield is highlighted with red/red orange.

Hair is highlighted with flesh tones mixed with red.

Both will achieve the same effect: it's just a matter of proportion. if you want red orange and you just have red and yellow, add more red than yellow and you'll get red orange.

Remember that, in theory, all colors (except for white, the absence of color) is a combination of the three primary colors in different proportions.
