A few things before we begin:
What kind of thing? Sorry, can't tell you. It's a secret thing. But I'll make a link when I put it up.

Alrighty, now that that's out of the way...

Burst gun (the infantry version of a burst cannon)
S5 AP5 X4,pinning
should X be heavy or assault?

Cyclic Ion gun
18" Sx AP4 Heavy D3+2, poisoned, rending, gets hot (variation; gets hot on a 6 when rolling to determine amount of shots)
or
18" S3 AP4 Heavy5, rending (like the old 'dex)
I want to show how unstable and radioactive the weapon is.

Longshot Railrifle
42" S7 AP1 Heavy1, pinning, precision (to hit rolls of 6 are precision shots)
Why? moar dakka.

Moar to come.

I can't get what you're getting at. You obviously want to make some sort of Tau-based fandex. You're just making smaller versions of the standard Tau armoury which they don't need.

1: Burst Gun has the same profile as the Burst Cannon, don't see what Heavy or Assault has to do with it.

2: The rules you have for Gets Hot are a bit confusing on the Cyclic Blaster.

3: Why make another version of the Rail Rifle? You already have the standard one and the Heavy, they really don't need another one.

As it stands, there's nothing in those weapons that would make me take them over the standard versions.

1: No, it's not a fandex.
2: Yes, these are for infantry, my apologies, I should have explained that (Edit: oh wait, I did.), I believe if a tau had to operate a burst cannon or cyclic ion blaster without the aid of a battlesuit the weapons' form factors would need to be modified and even then it would be cumbersome for infantry. Think of the burst and cyclic ion guns being more like a squad based support weapon, while the vehicle and battlesuit variants are more like 50-cal machine guns.
3: it's a simple question, would the infantry version of the burst cannon be heavy or assault?
4: the get's hot is just a quick summary, it will be explained better later. (or now, you know how we use d6s as d3s? well a 6 still gives 5 shots but causes the weapon to overheat)
5: I want something that can compete with the longshot pulse rifle, I also think having S7 is often better than poisoned for firing upon infantry. I think I'll give it another 6"
6: as it stands players that have the opportunity to use these would not have access to the standard versions
