I want to know what the worst thing to happen to you in a games workshop is?, il start. ok, so I went in to have a game at the flgw and ended up having a 1000 pst game of my tyranids verse some kid 4-5 years younger then me, so about 10's space marine. I took a carnifex, gaunts, ht and what not. ha had two landraiders, a captain, 2 tactical squads. I charged my carnifex against a tactical marine (the only left in the squad), he over watched , rolled a 4, and said it hits. I explained that you have to roll 6+ to hit in overwatch and he began arguing. I said, "ok, whatever, its just a game anyway" , he rolled to wound and got a 2, he claimed it was a wound, I said it was no where near it, we started arguing, the manager ended up telling the kid that it wasn't a wound, this ten year old proceeds to say "you're all fething retards who fething love plastic dolls", he than threw my carnifex at the floor, causing it to smash. the manager didn't let the boy leave, when his mother arrived, he made her pay for a new one, although she argued for a good half-hour, took the bitz I had used for mine out, given the rest to her, and said "leave, don't come back", to which she replied " i'm fething glad my son isn't one of you fat fething freaks with your expensive plastic feth" she then threw the spare carnifex pieces at the floor, and stormed out. since then me and the manager have been good frieands. I spent approx. 8 hours painting and building that carnifex, than I had to do it again, the worst part is that kid came in the next week, but that's a story for another day.

Well that Mother sounds hot, you get her number? In all seriousness, My worst moment in 40k was awhile back when I first started playing IG. See I had no idea that guard die easily.... given that I was young and planned not to lose a single guy, I was crushed. then a Really nice employee that as watching the game came over and said something along the the lines of "And a' ls the PDF was killed to a man" and all I could do after that was laugh about it.

I have a worst play moment and a worst modeling moment.
Worst play moment. I put together my first true army list. something like 850 points. Looking back at the points, it was an odd number. Captain, Razorback tl las 2 basic tac squads, 1 10 man, 1 6 man. A dev squad and a scout squad. I go to my local gw store to play. I end up playing the Store army, Demons. Bloodthirsters, a Demon prince, some dogs with a herald on one and the walker thing. I proceed to die in a loud grotesque manner. I think THINK I did one wound the entire game. Since I went in with very lofty goals of not losing and tabling my opponent...I was crushed.
Worst Modeling moment. My wife and I just recently bought our first house. Well, mobile home, but hey its OURS. In the process of moving my wife packs up my Space Marines. I was working tons of extra time to pay for the extra little things you need for a house and wasnt there when she packed them. The day came to load the Uhaul. I load a box and hear the tinkle of little plastic toy soldiers being shifted from a box I just used to brace a tv. I instantly ask her what was that box...Oh that was your Marines hunny. Dont worry the vechiles are in my van already. The guys I put in the bottom of the box and wrapped a towel around them. I had visions of the tons of glue I would need to put together my newly aquired not even painted beyond primer 1850+ Marine army. When I finaly got to the box they were in, I pulled them out to see that I had lost all of the banners on the Sarge's, the banner on the Captain, one of my dreadnaughts was pretty much toast and 3 of my scouts on my storm fell off. Overall, no where near as bad as I imagined

Recently I had a very tweaked out Command Squad on bikes get wiped out on the first turn (mind you they seized it) by a well placed orbital bombardment. I was not a happy camper for the rest of that game, ill tell you that, it was one of those "ehhh, you want to call it, i think you have me already" moments. Similar thing happened the next week with the same guy when he sniped my Ethereal with an orbital strike (2 on targets?!) on the first turn.

I still don't have a worst modeling moment luckily because I love every model I have and wish I could make every single one look great, but I've had quite a few bad gaming moments.
In one game against Eldar we played 1500 pts on a small map and on the FIRST turn my opponent killed, or put in a situation where they would be killed, half of my army. Everything but my Hive Tyrant was locked in combat and I could barely do anything until the 3rd turn when my Ymgarls came in and did a ton of damage. Even though they killed a few of his units I lost badly because we played kill points (and still do almost every game I play in, kill points is awful) and for some reason getting the first kill point gets you another kill point. It wasn't too bad but afterwards we found out that Tyranid MC weapons all count as power weapons. My Hive Tyrant was killed by a Dire Avenger and only managed to kill one squad of troops.
I don't play at hobby stores store I've never had to play against people like the OP talked about. But the reason I don't play at hobby stores is because of all the bad sportsmanship and (on several occasions) getting my things stolen at TCG tournies and meets.

My first game of 6th was pretty bad. I hadn't played since early 4th edition and was waiting all these years for the Tau update - so when the new Tau codex finally came out it happened to coincide with my GW's escalation league (500 pts to start).
I take a pretty decent list and show up for the event. Of course I get paired up with the only other Tau player for my first match. His list is basically fireblade, firewarriors, sniperdrone team and a riptide. He gets first turn and lands a direct hit with his riptides blast on my broadside wiping it and the drones out. He then uses his sniperdrone BS5 markerlights and fire blade to remove cover and boost the BS of his 20 pulserifle shots against one of my firewarrior teams (they all get killed). So on my turn 1 I have a crisis commander, 2 crisis suits and a small fire warrior team left.... I'm not going to quit first turn because that isn't right, but at the same time I had zero chance of winning.
I played out the rest of the game.... dragged on until turn 5 because my commander was so incredibly beefed up and his riptide managed to rolls 1s to hit (gets hot) 2 turns in a row.

Hadn't realized how utterly destructive Dreadknights were in close combat since it was my first fight against GK since I quit playing in at the start of 3rd edition. So I charged one of the buggers that had a sword with a brood of 3 carnifexes (still hadn't gotten much new models at that point). Only to have all 3 killed in one turn with three hits. More then 500 points of models getting wiped out by average rolls by a 155 point model kind of nauseated me.
2nd edition, well, when playing tyranids, any and all psychic phases. The rules were heavily stack toward having a lvl 4 psyker with a force staff and hood. Tyranids didn't have any of that wargear and most of their psychic powers were kind of weak, catalyst being the exception. With an opponent nullifying almost everything you did on a 4+ (or better if you used zoanthropes) on 2 dice, lack of ability to store warp cards, and the opponents ability to store 3 made for some long and painful turns. Thank GW that genestealers were brutal back then.

I played at store with some financial troubles right around the first release of black templars. It was about the only store, really, around at that time.
So i had played dark angels in third ed, but given it up. The guys at the store were all diehard 40k players, and i was interested in taking it up. Owner of the store encouraged me once he saw that i was interested in the game. I latched onto Black Templars based on looks knowing squat all about the game, or how it plays.
I pick out the battle box, the codex, a land raider crusader, some sword bretheren, bunch of tac marines, - tons of stuff. He rings me up not saying a word.
Hands me my receipt and says "You know, you just picked the cheesiest army to play, no one is going to want to play you if you play them."
I literally just spent 300+ bucks in your store, you helped me pick out the book and models, wait until i get finished paying and then tell me i picked a cheesy army and i can expect to not find an opponent to play in your store.
I put the stuff down, went out and had a quick rage smoke, and promptly returned all the gak on the spot. The guy had the balls to ask me why i was returning them.
I said "You just told me not to expect to actually play the game if i play this army, and you waited until i bought it to tell me that. If i'm not going to be able to play, then why buy it ?"
He fell all over himself trying to qualify and clarify himself, "oh that's not what i meant", "oh i was joking around, people will play you", but the damage was done, i was pretty friggin' pissed off.
That store closed less than a year later. I bought a bunch of black templars stuff at the going out of business sale just out of spite for a huge discount.
