Im starting to play 40k again. Im not a great player, but would like to win some of the games or at least have a chance. IN the past I have played some harder lists, but would like to play more for fun than competition. Im more into the hobby aspect (converting, painting etc) than the tourney scene.

Here's an army I was thinkin about building, but need some help deciding on what troops to take.
Im looking for 1500 to 1850 range

175 Warsmith, 5+ invul, VotLW, Nurgle, burning brand
141 7 Havocs 4 autocannons
85 ADL with Icarus lascannon
180 5 Havocs 4 plasmaguns, combiplasma RHIN)
152 2 Obliterators Nurgle

and then Im stuck

I don't care about a theme as far as marks go.
Ive thought about footsloggin CSM of Slanesh with banner to soak up shots or maybe 10 in a rhino. I''ve got some great conversions using WHFB Khorne juggernaut riders, which I could put in a rhino as well or build/convert that monster landraider (landraiders seem so subpar for the points cost)

I have some spawn I could build, a couple of heldrakes (would rather not as they are a little cheesy over the top for friendly play) I have some terminators I was also curious about suggestions for the loadout of terminators. (how many combi and what type of melee weapons)
I have a bunch of converted cultists already I could add to the list.
I feel like I need at least 3 solid scoring units to keep in the game maybe 4.
I generally roll dice poor dice, so having the feel no pain appeals to me.
Should I change marks on the warsmith for a better save?

Build the Helldrakes so you can swap between flamer and autocannon..its really no worse than an IG Hell hound..only slightly harder to kill.. (20 orks firing at the back side drops it like a stone) or 9 Lootas on the front armour..)
Go for 4 solid scoring units..

'\' ~9000pts
'' ~1500
"" ~3000
"" ~2500

Okay, when would you use the Hades autocannon. I think it's too easy to get 4 str 8 shots from other sources (or similar dakka) in the codex. I really wish they had given us optionaly transports (LR should hold 12 at least) and we need an alternative flyer or warp drop.

No suggestions on what type of troops?
are Nurgle that much tougher? I know they mitigate a lot of the small arms fire, but I would be concerned about the tougher guns (I don't leave home without nutcrackers, ie. plasmaguns, or melta or grav weapons en masse)

Yeah 20 Orks in the rear drop a Helldrake like a stone if and only if by "drops it like a stone" you mean on average does less than 1 HP of damage (0.74 HPs to be exact, meaning on average you'd need 80 boys in its rear arc to kill it). Likewise 9 lootas do on average 0.67 HPs to it in the front arc. I can only presume you play your Helldrakes as starting with just 1 HP? In which case I suggest you reread their rules and you'll be delighted to find out they have 3.

As for the Hades on it, whilst I love the Hades as a gun Bs3 is too unreliable. For 170 points getting just 2 S8 hits is not a great investment. The flamer cares not for the Bs3 so should always be taken on your first 2 Drakes only then should you consider the Hades.

This is what I was thinking - flamer or don't take it at all. I could have sworn it had the IT WILL NOT DIE and Deamon rules as well but I haven't looked at the rules recently.

I was going to go all hard out with a tough list, but figured I would learn to play better if I had less in my toolkit and was forced to think while I was playing, hence, I may not even take a helldrake and Im taking a warsmith instead of khorne jugger lord/nurgle bikelord. I'd like to try something different than the norm if possible.

Yeah it has those two rules the Daemon rule gives it a 5++ which was already considered in my calculations, the great news being you never have to jink as you've got a 5+ anyway. Which means they have to penetrate you to stop that flamer from firing
