Do you guys this that its still worth it to take a heavy weapon now? since they cost more/the same as devestator squads, I just dont find it worth it anymore except when it is in 5 man squads holding back (but IMHO devs are better) or multimeltas in a salamander detachment. thoughts?

heavy weapons are definitely worth taking in some tactical squads. Heavy support slots can fill up quickly, and a missile launcher or a plasma cannon can fit into any squad.

If you're keeping them in the back and not moving them much if at all, then yes. If you're having them move forward in anyway, likely via rhinos or drop pods, then no, since you're unlikely to hot much of anything with them.
Note that Salamanders w/Multi-Meltas are the exception.

If I'm drop podding, I'm bringing full squads, and I might as well throw a heavy weapon in there. That squad can scramble for cover and do its dirty work as the case may be.

Not quite true. Plasma cannons and frag missiles aren't moving on the move, but the others still have the ability to snap fire. And don't forget Ultramarines have a once per game Relentless for their devastators and a re-roll hits for Tacticals.

I keep forgetting about that rule . But yes, if you're playing ultramarines, by all means take what ever heavy weapon you want, since there will be at least one turn where you can get the full use of it.

Hit and run has allowed me to dance out of combat and pop off a multi-melta shot.

Well the answer is, it depends.
Heavy Weapons are not always the best option, sometimes they synergise well with the unit's role within the army, sometimes they don't and it is up to you to make the call on whether they do or not.

On the whole, I like them, but that is largely because I try and keep all my squads as codex-compliant as possible. However, this has in fact proven their worth, as the ML and LC ect that I have been 'forced' to take for fluff reasons have proven themselves useful in most games. I look at it in the same way as I do HWs in IG squads: the chances are you will get to fire at least once or twice, and in those couple of shots, you're probably going to achieve more than a bolter would.

I view the Heavy Weapon as the best reason to Combat Squad your Marines there is. Half the Squad stays in the back with the big gun, half loads into a Razorback with their Special weapon.

I agree with this in principle, and in "fluff" terms, but it usually gets my combat squads massacred. The current meta just doesn't reward anything except spamming, which would lead one to take only Devastators and concentrate those heavy weapons.
