The last two years GW has released an Xmas expanded battalion boxed set. I believe it was Empire and Vampire Counts last year and High Elves and Skaven the year before.

So, to build up the excitement for Xmas, what do people think the big boxes (should they continue) will be for Fantasy? And, what do you think will be in there.

The likelihood is that it will be from the releases this year so will be from Warriors of Chaos, Daemons, High Elves, Lizardmen and Dark Elves.

I'm discounting Daemons because of the likelihood swap over for WFB and 40k. I'm also discounting Warriors of Chaos since I think it will be one forces or order and one disorder and I think Dark Elves will definitely be one of them. That leaves a choice of Lizardmen or High Elves as the other. Since it might be a cool push for GW I think it would be High Elves and Dark Elves.

Your premise is somewhat incorrect, the big boxes are based on what the two best selling armies for each system are, hence why Space Marines always get a box, even if they didn't get a new book that year...

That's 40k. Last year was Space Marines and Necrons (new release) and Space Marines and Dark Eldar (new release) the year before. Space Marines will always be one of the two. Fantasy seems to be a little different.

Well, I think Daemons will be one of them simply because the minis for that range are compatible with both 40k and Fantasy which means they technically had a larger pool of potential buyers. Other than that I can't say much about it, nobody around here plays Fantasy anymore so I have no idea whats popular nor do I have any idea how to gauge sales figures of the new releases.

If I was asked to predict.

40k Tau and Tyranids
Fantasy Demons and Lizards

They also fit as a fluff grouping.

8000 Dark Angels (No primaris)
10000 Lizardmen (Fantasy I miss you)
3000 High Elves
4000 Kel'shan Ta'u

I feel like they're putting such a big push behind Dark Elves, that it will probably be one of the Fantasy boxes. (...and it will probably be what decides if I start Dark Elves, lol...)

Dark Elves/High Elves make a good thematic pairing, and High Elves was also a pretty good release, so that seems the most likely to me. (Might be nice to see Ogres, just because Ogres are often recommended to new people as a low model count army.)

And 40k will be Space Marines and something--probably Eldar, but maybe Tau.

Orks - "Da Rust Gitz" : 3000 pts
Empire - "Nordland Expeditionary Corps" : 3000 pts
Dwarfs - "Sons of Magni" 2000 points
Cygnar - "Black Swan" 100 pts
Trollbloods - "The Brotherhood"
Haqqislam- "Al-Istathaan": 300 points
Commonwealth - Desert Rats /2nd New Zealand 1000 points

Just outside the gates of hell

My money is on
Fantasy: Dark Elf and High Elf
40k: Space Marines and Tau.

Just a hunch. No root reasons

Gathering the Informations.

I'd give Dark Elves a pretty good chance for a "big army box". They're the new shiny army and they currently do not have a battalion box, with the old one having been removed.
