I've got a 2000pts one day event to go to next month and intend to take a space marine list. I like the idea of some droppod squads with a couple of groups of bikers.
The tournament is 3 rounds with quite heavy terrain and an unpredicable meta, last time out it was lots of Tau/eldar with wraithknights and riptides.

Here's the initial list:

Ultramarines CT

Tigurius -16x
Seems to good not to take, can drop with the sternguard or sit at the back with the devs. His warlord trait seems pretty useful with the sternguard

10 Tacticals – Flamer, Combi-Flamer, Multi-Melta - 165
Droppod - 3x
10 Tacticals – Plasma, Combi-Plasma, Lascannon - 185
Droppod - 3x
The first squad is heavy anti-infantry with the second a bit more multi roll, I could easily split the second for a backfield scoring lascannon when needed, the ultra CT is obviously of great use on these

9 Sternguard – 2x Heavy Flamer, 3x Combi-Melta - 258
Droppod - 3x
I miss being able to have 10 plus a character in a squad but they still kill most things they drop next to, tiggy will be here unless I feel I have to drop them into a really deadly situation

Stormtalon – Skyhammer 125
Good all round firepower and the turret is great for getting at other flyers rear armour

5 Devastators – 3x Missile Launcher, 1x Flakk, 1x Lascannon - 135
The single las is to use with the signum and I like the ultra CT to reposition on the expected dense boards
Thunderfire Cannon - 100
Seems a must take now with barrage
Stormraven – TL Lascannon, TL Multimelta - 200
I'm slightly unsure with this one as I'm generally going to just use it as a gunship as I need the extra anti-air and general powerful firepower, I could replace it with another thunderfire or some legion of the damned, I don't have another stormtalon else I'd use that. Seems like it will be pretty good verses the riptides and wraithknights

I'm unsure on the CT to use with these bikes, more below.

Chapter Master – Bike, Artificer, Thunder Hammer, The Shield Eternal, Auspex - 255
A fast, durable, beatstick that can tank wounds for one of the squads or run off solo to hunt specific enemies.
5x Bikers – Combi-Grav, 2x Grav-gun - 145
All the grav I have :-(
4x Bikers – 2x Meltagun, + Attack Bike – Multimelta - 159
Standard anti-heavy armour unit

Now I can't decide which CT to use with the bike contigent, the options I'm thinking of.

- White scars: the extra cover save is nice as is the hit and run especially with the chapter master.
- Iron hands: adds a little survivability to the bikes but make the CM beastly, also I could move both the flyer into this detachment to gain IWND.
- Ultramarines: Add reliability to the special weapons when I use the tactical doc and give me a more likely assault with the CM in one round. Also means I can chose the CM as warlord when needed and do'nt have to explain that there are two chapters of red coloured space marines allied together ;-)

I'd like to know your thoughts, I have at least one of most options in the codex but don't have any more drop pods or the time to paint any more of my bikes.

I think your much better off reducing one of the tacs to 9 men losing the heavy and placing tigurius there, this way you can have the SG combat squad and with prescience and storm of fire he can twin link both combat squads turn one. Way more bang for your buck IMO. This also makes it so your opponent needs to handle three threats rather then having all your eggs in one basket.

I like the idea, it would mean the sternguard can split their fire on the turn they drop and melta a tank and flame a squad.

If I drop the Multimelta from the first tactical squad to add the extra sternguard leaving me 2pts, I had 3pts left over from the original list so can buy a meltabomb for the flamer tac squad.

Can't cast blessings and maledictions turn 1 if he drop pods in. They have to be cast before reserves happen.
