I'm thinking about starting Tyranids (eventually) and I've been liking the sound of a minimalist Flyrant paired with:

+ Lictors (maybe), Ravenor's (not sure how many atm, would like lots), Trygons (3 - 1 is a prime) and a whole lot of Hormagaunts.

I'm planning on a very assault orientated army obviously, but I was wondering on how to optimize the play style for the army.

I would say use the lictors and the lot to take out dangerous vehicles before they become a threat, and I don't think you need a Flyrant for that list so you should take a CC Hive Tyrant with Tyrant Guard. Also try to keep the models at least an inch away from each other at all times if you can, this can help minimalize casualties from blast weaponry. I'd also suggest taking a Tervigon for 1500 pt and higher games so you can give FNP. In 2000 pt games just go crazy with Hormagaunts and Raveners.

Fluffwise, it sounds cool, but whether it's a useful build will depend on the forthcoming codex (probably January, just maybe November).

Will a horde of running gaunts (so "cinematic" ) actually get across the board to do some damage? Maybe...

Will GW fix the Lictor rules? Maybe...

Personally, I suggest you buy and paint your Flyrant and maybe some gaunts, but wait for the codex before any serious investment.

Yeah with the whole Flyer meta i would bet youre safe buying your Flyrant now and just taking your sweet time giving him an epic base/paint job. The rest, i'd just wait unless you can get a crazy ebay deal.

New codex has a habit of twisting the race's "style" and in an army with THAT many different models....i expect some heavy twists. Who knows, Pyrovores might be the new thing lol

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Wait for the new Codex before buying a bunch of models. The rules will change, what is good now will be bad tomorrow.

another cool thing about with new codex releases is the people who will be rage quitting and ebaying their stuff. It might not be the most powerful unit anymore or whatever but it will probably be cheap and fun.
