Inspired by a post on another thread.
What is the worst injury you have ever suffered in the hobby?

Myself, well I was assembling a 1/144 scale Karl-Gerat mortar and I happened to notice a large section of flash. I took up my knife to cut it away.
Now, I was doing the stupid thing of resting the component on my finger.... And many of you will be able to see where this is going....
Suffice to say, I pressed to hard and the razor slipped.... Annnd the blood flew out in a spray. I rushed downstairs and rapped my finger in tissue, then my mum came through, saw it, and started screaming at me and how could I have been so stupid, etc. There are still stains on my wall, about 2 metres from where I was. I keep them to remind myself to always use a mat.
And as it turned out the "flash" happened to be vital to the construction. The rather sparce instructions just failed to mention it.

So, can anyone top this?

I was cutting pieces off a sprue with a swiss army knife...it closed on my finger.
I'm not entirely sure how that happened, but I've still got good scar 16yrs later.

Took out a (small) chunk of my thumb.
Knife went in, I freaked and my first instinct was to get it out, which unfortunately didn't mean going back up but rather turning it to the side and going back out again.

Not fun.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Hobby knife cuts, super gluing fingers together, both are normal every few months for me being accident prone. 2 stick out for worst injury for me.
1) While working on a metal GUO, it fell and the sword pierced my foot a good 1/4 inch or so. the metal ones are very heavy. That thing flew like a softball into the wall after that.
2) (VERY STUPID IDEA!) While working with a dremel with a cutting wheel I was holding the model between my legs, towards my knees thankfully, and it caught a tough spot, and "jumped" into my inner thigh, cut wasn't too deep, but did leave a nasty 2 inch cut. I now use a small vice for holding minis. those are my 2 worst.

Stabbed myself in the thigh with my x-acto.
Was changing the blade for a fresh one, when the handle slipped out of my hand and ker-thunked into my leg (and through my jeans).

Missed the femoral artery (because blood did not fountain out) but left a nice 5mm scar.

Did this 6 months or so ago. My latest in a long line of modelling injuries that started with standing on my soldering iron at the age of 12 or so (33 years ago).

Was cleaning up some pieces of a kit (old metal Death Company iirc) with a brand new blade in my knife.

Slipped, and the tip punctured through my thumb nail, almost exactly in the centre.

That provoked such a stream of invective that my mum came storming into my room (I was about 17 at the time) to give me a bollocking. On seeing the blood, she simply went "never mind" and walked out of the room!

(She had, unknown to me, gone to get a bandage, I just thought she'd abandoned me)

I double cut myself while cutting a Stegadon off the sprue X.X

Hobby knife slipped, stabbed into my index finger leaving a scar and cutting to the bone, while recoiling jammed my hand into the thing's horn and stabbed my other finger on that, though not as badly, still drew blood though DX

Just a tip: superglue works for closing wounds really fast. Make sure to disinfect it first to avoid infection. Thankfully, every time I get a cut from a hobby knife a bottle of superglue and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol is just grabbing distance away from me. Had two injuries this week (because now I'm regularly changing blades. Apparently the only thing that made me accident free these past few years are dull blades), both solved quickly by alcohol and superglue.

Dremeled a drill bit right into my thumb while trying to pin an old Rackham miniature. I gave up pinning for a bit after that, but the old Rackhams are so fragile, no pin usually means the miniature breaks with a drop.

I eventually went back to trying to pin miniatures together. Only had a single repeat performance so far. Fingers crossed.

The worst that's ever happened to me was getting CSM spikes stuck in my thumb. Some of the injuries that you see in these threads are properly shocking.

Just a note on this.

Whilst SOME superglue is used for surgical purposes, regular stuff that you can get in a hardware/general store is NOT the same as MEDICAL grade stuff.
Regular stuff is more of an irritant and more likely to trigger an allergic response. Medical grade stuff is a different chemical makeup

The chemistries and interactions are quite different and they should not be mixed up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethyl_cyanoacrylate is regular superglue.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butyl_cyanoacrylate and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2-octyl_cyanoacrylate are medical grade glues.

The risks might be low, but you can 'poison yourself' using the regular stuff.

I was using a hand cranked drill holding it between my legs, pushing on top of it with the plastic part, the drill broke off , afterwards i couldn't find the broken off part, until i looked at my thumb, the drill had gone straight through it, sticking out of the nail, only then off course when looking at it, it started to hurt.

Eathquake this summer (nothing serious). But during the brief shaking my super glue with the complete top off, fell from the table and quickly pooled in my lap.

During the coughing and burning eyes that followed, my penis was glued to my boxers and khakis.

I laughed and cried when I read this. I assume that everything was okay though....

And well done conker246 for finding that one, I had almost forgotten about it

As it is I almost forgot the time I was 4 and glued my left hands index and middle finger to the corresponding thumb. Having to pull them apart under hot water and soap was VERY painful (neither myself nor my older brother wished for my mum to find out.)
