Hi I am also looking at Eldar for my first army but I don't know what would be a good list at 500 points.

I would like to include Dire Avengers and Wave Serpents, and for the HQ the Farseer but if you have other suggestions too then I would like to read them also.

Thanks

Very nice, I saw a similar army being used in a battle report and it did very well. This is the kind of list I was looking for thanks.
Do you have any variations of this list that I should also consider?

A bit less reliable, but:

5 Dire Avengers - Wave Serpent (TL Scatters, Holo Fields)
5 Dire Avengers - Wave Serpent (TL Scatters, Holo Fields)
Farseer.

The witchblade isn't nearly as reliable vs vehicles. Also Guide and Prescience won't be as useful as your tanks will already be twin linked.

That being said this variation on double DAVU can still work well.

Another good sounding list. I really like the farseer model so I would probably use it anyway as the autach then I can switch between the two.

On a side note do you have any suggestions on the painting of the models? Any quirks or unique ways for painting eldar?

Thanks

Well I'm using army painter colours and I'm not sure on the conversion:

Deep Blue (For the armour, darker than the GW pictures of dire avengers)
Electric Blue (For edge highlighting the armour)
Matt Black (For the gun)
Ash Grey (To edge highlight the gun and base the white areas)
Matt White (Helmet and Cloth)
Desert Yellow (For the mo-hawk and other yellow/gold areas)

I'm not sure about the wave serpent because I don't want it to blend in too much with the dire avengers, so not blue as a major coulour, I was thinking grey and a matt orange.. (not sure about the orange)

I won't bother about reposting in painting and modeling it was just in case there was something major about painting eldar that I'd missed.

Thanks

Yeah I prefer the serpents tbh but it looks kinda fun... Yeah washing the lines would be good, when would I do that? I'm planning on base spraying white so straight after that then add the colours?

I field a list crazier than that:

HQ:
Avatar w. fast shot & monster hunter

Troops:

8 Rangers

3 Windrider Jetbikes w. Shuriken Cannon

Heavy Support:

Fire Prism

Fire Prism is there to lay the hurt on MEQ and also crack tanks from afar (60" S9 AP2 on a 5+ jink skimmer in 500 points is fine enough) and will try to stay away from 48" Lascannons so the only army that could give me trouble is Tau with their Railhead. And then you have the Avatar moving + fleeting an average 10" toward the enemy; he can easily deal with any MC the enemy can field in small point games due to dual Wailing Doom shots at S8 + monster hunter. The Rangers are merely there to capture and hold the home objective while the Jetbikes do a JSJ with their Shuriken Cannon before grabbing another objective on turn 5.

Well, I was going to suggest a list like this. Two Serpents are hard to deal with at this point level. The choice of the HQ is not really important here.

What other HQ's could you get for 80 points or would you have to give up a bit of equipment? Is the autach with fusion blaster the best one?

Well, you'll have two choices: Spiritseer or Autarch. In each case, the HQ should join one DA unit. The Spiritseer could give conceal while the Autarch could go tank hunting. Make sure not to give an easy victory point to our enemy.
