I'm trying to make an all comers BT list and ended up with something like this but I can't tell if it's balanced enough. I added in the thunderfire because I had 100 points to fill and thought it went well with the stalkers for the tech marine to repair them (on the other hand it is firing blasts straight into the enemy lines where the majority of my army is going to be). So what are your thoughts on how to improve upon this list?

Btw the crusaders have power axes and the sword brothers have lightning claws because they are not going to get an extra attack for wielding a pistol so why not. Automatically Appended Next Post: Why do you say that when I have three pods coming in turn 1

because, you 1. cannot charge after podding in, 2. will be out in the open. and 3. have nothing else on the board that would really be a threat larger than those units.

The bad thing about BT is that can't Combat Squad, so they only have 3 targets to shoot at Turn1. Granted 30 Power Armor or better squads isn't the worst thing, you just have to have great deployments (placement) with the podded marines.
Stack to one side of his army, deploy correctly, and you'll be fine. Might want to consider trying to squeeze in another pod. Maybe drop a TFC, dropping 5 of the marines in the pods and replacing them with neophytes for bodies.
When I say correctly, it's going to take practice, but if they are assault oriented army, like Daemons, deploy the max 24" away (if you keep bolters), and try to sit on your objectives. If they spread out their army in their deployment, pod all 6 pods on the far side so you only fight a fraction of theirs at a time, etc.
Practice is what's going to make your drop pod list viable. The list seems alright. I personally am not a huge fan of the new BT tactics and I recently bought 2400 points worth of BTs. Sigh.
Good luck.

Thanks for your guys' input I'm gonna rethink this list maybe go down to three pods and add some aggressive units to force the enemy to choose his targets.

Pods can take up to 12 models so you could add two scouts to each unit of crusaders. Its the cool thing about BT you can have more then just 10 dudes in a squad.
Just some food for thought

I quite like this list, but as some of the other guys have said it does require something to take the enemies mind of your men. This is a list which i have used a few times and so far have really enjoyed.
HQ:
- Chaplain Grimildus
- 5x Command Squad w/4x meltagun + drop pod w/ locator beacon.
- 2x 20x crusader + flamer w/ sword brother + melta bomb.
- 10x crusader w/ plasma, grab pistol, drop pod.
Storm Talon w/ Skyhammer.
Vindicator
Vindicator
The idea is for the 2 vindicators to move infront of the 20man squads, turbo boosting until in range. Grimmy runs behind them with the crusader squads. The two drop pods are primarily for objective caping and wrecking the enemies big tanks on arrival. Of course the storm raven is to keep those pesky birdies from burning up my men.

Basically, when the Space Wolves are busy getting smashed, the Blood Angels are busy arranging their hair, the Ultrasmurfs are busy boosting their own egos, the Dark Angels are busy being paranoid heretics, the Salamanders are busy setting things on fire, and the Imperial Fists are busy being pious, you can count on the Black Templars to get things done. Righteously and with no mucking around. |
