So
Yesterday I stood in my LGS holding the pack of the new Shadowblade mini for Dark Elves.
Then an idea popped up in my head.

I could use the mini as part of a Baron Sathonyx conversion!

But as I twisted and turned the package in my hand and comparing it to (the only clear package dark eldar in the store) a beastmaster I got the feeling it would be to small.

Is this a normal problem? Is WHFB smaller/thinner/not build than 40k.
This is mostly elves/eldar I think about but also human/imp guard and so on.

Orcs and Orks seem about the same build, Fantasy Orcs maybe a tad more lanky and slender.

A lot of the things in 40k do seem to have a bit more ott muscle builds than in Fantasy. But the scale is approx the same afaik.

Warhammer models are routinely used for 40k conversions. Any differences in size between the current ranges are not substantial and, if need be, can be disguised by adding pouches, pistols or other bits and peices.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

How is it with heads?

Do the leaner bodies make the 40k heads abnormal?

Human heads are the same size in both and have similar necks so are freely interchangeable between warhammer troops and IG and Space Marine Scouts, the marines themselves of course have those ribbed necks.

GW's proportions (in either game) are already so awful that it doesn't really matter if they aren't perfectly the same scale. Conversions using parts from both games aren't going to be any worse than the standard kits.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Hmmm I've used (last edition) Dark Elves for Dark Eldar conversion pieces. There's a bit of slashing when your replacing heads due to how the joins work and I do believe Dark Elves heads are very slightly smaller, but you can't tell when the models all painted up pretty on most pieces.

I think the only one that looked a bit odd was one of the prince heads on a D.Eldar warrior

Some years ago, there was a WD that showed an army that was a kit-bash of bretonnian men-at-arms with cadian arms/lasguns/weapon bitz. It spawned a few copycats for awhile. Google isn't doing a good job at finding any, or else I'd post a picture.

I did manage to find this, though. A bit of conversion work, of course, but voila, imperial guard + Empire:
