Subject: Suggestion for a 2nd WFB Army

I currently have an Ogre Kingdom army of around 3000pts and am possibly looking to start a 2nd one. I would like an army with a totally different playstyle to the Ogres and preferably with an 8th edition army book. Other than that, I am completely open to suggestions with the exception that I am not really a fan of Orcs and Goblins or Bretonnians. I would also like a reasonably shooty army to balance out the mostly combat focus of the ogres. Thoughts please? I have left Ogres off the poll for obvious reasons and included all the armies because at the rate GW are pumping out books, more of them might have been updated to 8th by the time I am ready to start this army.

Gone with Empire, many different playstyles and lots of 'shooty' options that you mentioned.
Wide range of units to choose from too so can tailor your army to a specific style or go for a mix of everything.

I'm seconding JChalmers here
Empire is versatile, got shooting that you're looking for, and is quite different from Ogres
plus they can be very cheap (and even more varied) with Historical miniatures

Empire seems to be your go to army, yeah. It works well as shooty, and as a second army you can tailor it to whatever army ADD befalls you in the future.
Skaven is also a possibility. Going for massive hordes is certainly the polar opposite of Ogres, and they're shooty as well.

I voted for vampire counts because they are a very horde type army and very heavily based in magic. They also have one of the better monsterous creatures in the terrorgheists and have awesome special and rare choices.

I am starting to seriously consider empire as well actually.
Interesting as I have never really been into human armies before. Like you guys have said, there is just so much so scope of what can be done with them.

I voted for Empire without reading anything other than the first post - my reasons were aesthetic (couldn't be more different to ogres) and shootyness / totally different tactically

I voted for Dark Elves. They are about as opposite as I can think of to Ogres. They shoot. They can run several units that just run around the enemy making them dizzy (Dark Riders and Warlocks, primarily) while still doing damage and clearing chaff. Also, any combat block is going to need 20+ models. Given that the biggest Ogre unit I've ever run was 17+ characters, that's a little different.
Now that I've also read the other posts, I do have to agree that Empire would also be a fine choice.

Dark Elves are also another option. They have some lovely new models (a little pricey though perhaps on some of them) and I have always been a fan of their lore, mainly since reading the Darkblade and Sundering novels.
