I was looking at the option of taking a techmarine HQ in the new Space Marine Codex.
6 drop pods and 6 Ironclads would be very different but would it work?

I don't see why not

Take MOTF and 6 Ironclads with different load outs for different targets in drop pods, and 5 5man tac marine squads with probably flamers coming in turn two for a boat load of lulz.

It's been done before, only it's better now because there are less melta guns around.

Sadly the change to their asault launchers made them lose the +1 to cover saves from defensive grenades, but ironclads still wreck face. Just make sure you kill any enemy MC fast.
